WASHINGTON — Transgender individuals will be able to openly serve in the U.S. armed forces, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced Thursday. The new policy will be phased in over a one-year period and, effective immediately, servicemembers may no longer be involuntarily separated, discharged or denied reenlistment solely on the basis of gender identity, according to a Department of Defense news release. Servicemembers currently on duty will be able to serve openly. At one year, the services will begin allowing transgender individuals to join the armed forces, assuming they meet accession standards. Gender identity will also not be considered a bar to admission to a military service academy, for participation in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps or any other accession program, if the individual meets the new criteria. “This is the right thing to do for our people and for the force,” Carter said in a news release issued shortly before the formal announcement. “We’re talking about talented Americans who are serving with distinction or who want the opportunity to serve.” The new policy also establishes a construct to let servicemembers transition gender while serving and sets standards for medical care. news@stripes.com

Ass Carter said they are following the template to successful implementation of the policy! Whatever that means. Thank goodness we live in such peaceful times so we can achieve this wonderful human rights issue! I wonder if we should review our mission and see if there are any threats out there. /S
I can just see some “marine” prancing from fox hole to fox hole in his long skirt and high heels. Not a pretty sight!
This has not been thought out. If current trends are allowed to prevail, any recruit male or female, can say they ‘identify as’ the other gender at any time. There may be instances where males will ‘identify as’ females in order to pass rigorous physical tests needed for advancement.
So will they cease to have separate sleeping /living quarters for men and women? Is that what will soon be mandated too?
Then watch how ‘shocked’ they pretend to be when so many of their recruits become pregnant (or STD pos) and thus, disabled for regular duty. ‘What’s going on? Why all the mistreatment of women? We will NOT tolerate it!!!”
I hope all of those who are for this are sued for everything they own.

Folks of profile are not allowed to deploy...yet you are going to deploy folks who need daily or weekly injections of the opposite sex hormones? You cannot be deployed or re-enlisted with a whole host of medicinal now, all of which are taken orally. Buy you are going to let mentally challenged folks in who need shots to avoid going back to what they were?

lastly all the sensitivity training in the world will not overcome the projectile vomit inducing aspect of seeing a man dress like a woman. It is just gross.
This administration is really attempting to destroy the small unit cohesion of the military. It is going to take a severe defeat in war to right this ship, with lots of dead Americans sacrificed on the alter of diversity.
