Monday’s Supreme Court ruling tossing Texas abortion restrictions puts a massive spotlight on the new debate pressing evangelicals: Which is a worse sin, racism or abortion?
For decades, abortion has been the mother of all deciding issues for evangelicals, who make up about a quarter of the U.S. population and are strongly opposed. But in the 2016 race, with Donald Trump’s unusually incendiary comments about race, culture and religion, this second issue is becoming increasingly sacred.
This question of how to deal with Hillary Clinton’s robust support for abortion rights along with Trump’s challenging of the place of minorities is one of the most common at evangelicals’ dinner tables today, laying bare divisions between young and old and white and non-white. And it is a challenge to the evangelical-GOP alliance that has been sacrosanct for generations.
On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that Texas restrictions on abortion are unconstitutional. This comes at a time of controversy over various Trump statements, including a proposal to ban Muslims and remarks that a judge of Mexican descent couldn’t be unbiased in a legal case against him because Trump is vowing to build a wall between the United States and Mexico.
Abortion “is the single greatest issue of our time, I don’t disagree, but in responding negatively [when he raises the subject of race], it shows they don’t want to think about race and racism,” Thabiti Anyabwile, an African American pastor in Southeast Washington and a council member of the conservative evangelical network the Gospel Coalition, said in an interview. “They want to say it’s vastly secondary, so why bring it up? … My response is, why can’t we talk about both things?”
Anyabwile wrote on the racism-abortion dynamic on his popular blog this month in a post that was shared thousands of times.

You do not "believe" that abortion is killing; you know that it is killing because all of the scientific evidence shows that it is the killing of a human being.
Using the word "believe" to describe your pro-life position casts the issue of life as a matter of opinion. It is not. Those who are pro-abortion can believe that the unborn fetus is not a living human being all they want; there is not a shred of evidence to support that belief. The evidence is on our side. Let us not be afraid to be assertive about it. We know that abortion kills human infants.

Hillary is the racist and the one who hates anyone and everyone who isn’t the elite of the world. What she has done is beyond the pale, and they don’t mind how bad she is... for they are of the same cloth. Their buzzwords are racist, misogynist, fascist, xenophobe, and Hitler. Trump won’t be the last conservative they use these words on. For reference point, George Bush was already called a racist and Hitler. They are recycling.

Absolutely. The problem with the premise article is that it’s “established” that he’s a racist. They didn’t even bother to interview or quote people who thought otherwise. Then they proceed to only quote people who seem to find racism a bigger issue than 1.3 million abortions. It doesn’t get more biased.

Or why pointing out a La Raza judge may have problems with objectivity is controversial?
Since Trump is not a racist and Evangelicals and every other honest person will say that, this is a rhetorical question.
Actually, he was accusing the judge of race-based bias.
There appears to be a bit of confusion with the Muslim ban anyway because Trump said in his foreign policy speech that he would be not allowing in people from countries with ties to terrorism.
Who are overwhelmingly muslim.
It isn't recognized that our current policy is to exclude Christians from those countries. How is it racist to exclude muslims from the war zone, but not racist to exclude Christians from those very same countries?
If you support Al Qaeda or Isis you are considered a refugee, because you are under attack by the government. If you are a Christian, facing attack by Isis and Al Qaeda, you are by the rules not a refugee, because your attackers are not in the government.
And so the only real refugees are excluded by State Department policy. And anyone who wants to change the policy is a bigot, according to them.

I’ve been kicking around evangelical circles for over 40 years and can honestly say I’ve never met a true racist.
