Leading climate doomsayer Michael Mann recently downplayed the importance of climate change science, telling Democrats that data and models "increasingly are unnecessary" because the impact is obvious.
"Fundamentally, I'm a climate scientist and have spent much of my career with my head buried in climate-model output and observational climate data trying to tease out the signal of human-caused climate change," Mr. Mann told the Democratic Platform Drafting Committee at a hearing.
"What is disconcerting to me and so many of my colleagues is that these tools that we've spent years developing increasingly are unnecessary because we can see climate change, the impacts of climate change, now, playing out in real time, on our television screens, in the 24-hour news cycle," he said.
Mr. Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University, spoke before the committee June 17 in Phoenix.
His comment drew hoots from climate skeptics, including the website Greenie Watch, which posted his comment under the headline, "'Scientist' Michael Mann says there is no need for statistics: You can just SEE global warming."

Sounds more like superstition than science.
Climate change isn’t dangerous, it’s always happened and will continue.
What’s dangerous is the idea that the climate can be run better by government than by nature.
OK, Mr. (not Dr.) Mann, what IS the optimum temperature for Earth? What IS the perfect number of storms and lightning strikes? What is the exact amount of rain and snow that should fall? Now, what is all that in every season and in every location on the planet?
You can’t decide if CHANGE is good or bad unless you know what the ideal is.
Obama promised CHANGE. You assumed that it would be good. He changed America away from the ideal, so it is bad. If you are too stupid to see that change away from freedom is bad, then why should be accept anything you say on something as complicated as climate.
Come to think of it, I just thought of a good use for that ‘hockey stick’.
Was he the author of the e-mail that said “We’ve got to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period”? If not, I’m sure he agreed with the sentiment.
If he were to tell me “we don’t need data, we can see climate change” I would reply “Damn right. If the climate keeps getting warmer, pretty soon Vikings will be able to raise cattle in Greenland. Just like they did a thousand years ago.”
Translated: “let’s not look at the data because we know it’s crap”.

Somebody should ask Mann what he thinks of the work of Jan Esper (Esper et al 2006, 2012, 2015) and than watch his head explode.

Michael Mann, idiot. I can’t see climate change as predicted by Al Gore, who famously said the eastern seaboard would be inundated by the Atlantic within ten years... and that was said much more than ten years ago. I can’t see any change in the sea level, let alone Manhattan under water.
