~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Scott Air Force Base, Illinois

Scott Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base in St. Clair County, Illinois, near Belleville and O'Fallon. Scott Field was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the United States entered World War I in April 1917.

It is part of the Air Mobility Command (AMC), and is also the headquarters of the U.S. Transportation Command, a Unified Combatant Command that coordinates transportation across all the services.

The base is operated by the 375th Air Mobility Wing (375 AMW) and is also home to the Air Force Reserve Command's 932d Airlift Wing (932 AW) and the Illinois Air National Guard's 126th Air Refueling Wing (126 ARW), the latter two units being operationally gained by AMC.

The base currently employs 13,000 people, 5,100 civilians with 5,500 active-duty Air Force, and an additional 2,400 Air National Guard and Reserve personnel. It was announced in June 2014 that two new cybersecurity squadrons will be added to the three currently on base.

Its airfield is also used by civilian aircraft, with civilian operations at the base referring to the facility as MidAmerica St. Louis Airport. MidAmerica has operated as a Joint Use Airport since beginning operations in November 1997. Allegiant Air, the only commercial with scheduled flights at the airport, pulled out of the airport on January 3, 2009, but resumed direct flights to Orlando in 2012.

Well, how’s about that for a great way to start the week? Except for the heat, that is. LOL! Sounds like you two had a grand time.

Hotter ‘n’ hades here today. Then a huge rain system came through and cooled things off - - - and it didn’t rain here!! It poured ALL AROUND us but there was a hole that showed on the radar and we were smack dab in the middle of it. GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
We finally got a sprinkle late in the afternoon but it was barely enough to dampen the leaves.

Just chillin’ this evening. Watching “Major Crimes” at the moment.

Drat! Not exactly a smooth start to your week, was it? I’d hoped you’d gotten lucky for once and things ran smoothly. Always seems to be something cropping up to gum the works.

Hope tomorrow goes much better.

Good evening, radu...clouds rolling in, possible showers overnight.

Anything gonna make it to you?

I’m going home with homework. Back in a bit.

Well good. Lazy days off are good for the body. :-)

Sure wish we could have gotten the rain y’all had. Our soybeans and every other plant and tree would deeply appreciate it. We’re hurting.

Glad y’all got it though. You’ve been awfully dry.

Hope you have better luck with rain than we did this afternoon. I swear there's a "weather dome" that goes up over us. LOL!

It rained ALL AROUND us but we were stuck in a hole the whole time. Watching the radar loop was depressing, seeing the rain refuse to fill in that hole. This shows what I'm talking about ....

I circled our county and the little red dot is pretty much where we are. That hole didn't change for a long time as the system moved east. Surrounded by rain and we were dry. That batch of storms to our SE didn't pass over - - they formed there!
We finally got a sprinkle late in the afternoon.

This is what happens waaaaay too often. The rest of the state gets rain and we don't. I wanna find that "weather dome" controller and smash it! LOL

Well, we only have 6” for the year, but hubby says that’s normal and maybe a bit above. But...WE’RE the desert where that is expected.

I hope you get some soon for your crop to make! That’s sad! :(

Whew! That IS dry but yeah, it’s the desert. LOL

We’ve had 25 inches so far this year but this time last year, we’d had almost 38 inches. Last year was a touch above normal but not by much. We’re definitely below normal this year and everything’s dying. Tree leaves are turning brown so we know we’re in trouble.

Aunt Clara has a saying she repeats all the time - - a farmer has to be a gambler. So true. We’ve had three awesome years with bumper crop yields so I guess we’re due a bad year. Still sucks!

Yeah, we could have used a LOT more.

I need to water the flowers from Dad tonight. I held off last night in hopes of getting rain today.

Oh well.
