Pink snow may be aesthetically pleasing, but scientists have found that it is indicative of the rapid pace of global warming.
This snow, which thrives in high-latitude and high-altitude regions, is found in areas comparable to the Arctic, where Chlamydomonas nivalis algae, which is normally green, has a chemical reaction to the UV rays from the sun and takes on a reddish-pink hue.
Scientists have been aware of rose-tinted snow since 1818, but they initially misunderstood its origins, believing it came about as a result of iron deposits left behind by a meteor. However, subsequent findings from the same year suggested that a kind of algae, not extraterrestrial iron, is to blame for the nontraditional hues. More contemporary findings have corroborated this notion.
This pink snow, sometimes referred to as blood or watermelon snow in the Arctic regions, is harmful despite its quirky facade. The algae expedites the melting of the Arctic, which is already happening at a faster rate than expected, due, in part, to global warming, a new study shows.

Is it just me or if this ‘pink snow’ has historically been confined to areas such as the arctic, but is now found elsewhere would that not indicate global cooling?
I guess they are arguing that ice caps are melting and spreading it. I don’t buy it. If it only survived previously there’s a reason it only existed in the coldest, highest elevation places on earth.
I remember seeing this as a kid in Wyoming.
The warmer the snow, the more snow sharks there are.
It took eons for the swampy earth to become less steamy and more varied; eons more and my personal theory is some natural catastrophic event put the earth off her axis just a tad...a bit more tilt away from the sun...causing winter to linger causing even more cold weather in more places and so on...enjoy the pink ice, it will be there for some time.
Now “snow thrives” as if it was vegetation instead of the “algae that makes it pink thrive...”
I hate amateur science writers.
Also, this is an old article so it might have been plagiarized from an earlier publication.
I also hate dishonest writers.
Beware “The Crimson Tide”.
Run in circles! Scream and shout!
*applause*
EXACTLY!
This is how I implement my evil-scientist plan to destroy the planet!
Pic below of me implanting and culturing colonies of Chlamydomonas nivalis in the arctic...
BWAH! HAH! HAH! HAH! HAH! HAAAAH!!!!
Cue the “not this $*it again” picture.
These grant-funded anti-scientists are such complete integrity-free morons.
Stay from I.P. Freeley...
Ahh nice lol so its more a random bacterial thing that exists at higher elevations?
So globull warming has been going on now for almost 200 years, we're doomed!!!
Only hot days in June and July .... not an all-time hottest day in January .... maybe a day in January was 11th or 12th?
The hottest temperatures always occur in Outer Slobovia or some similar place where independent verification is impossible.
It’s cold where you live ... Lake Havasu AZ
