BRUSSELS: EU chiefs on Friday told Britain to start negotiations to quit the bloc "as soon as possible", after outgoing Prime Minister David Cameron said he would leave the negotiations to his successor.

"We now expect the United Kingdom government to give effect to this decision of the British people as soon as possible, however painful that process may be," said a joint statement after Britons voted for a Brexit .

"Any delay would unnecessarily prolong uncertainty."

The statement was issued by EU president Donald Tusk, European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker, EU Parliament leader Martin Schulz and Dutch premier Mark Rutte, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the bloc, after crisis talks in Brussels.

Cameron announced he would step down to make way for a new leader by October, adding that the new prime minister would be responsible for officially triggering Article 50 of the EU's Lisbon Treaty to start Britain's divorce from the bloc.

Article 50 Ping! The French scuttlebutt appears to be, there must be punitive steps to keep the rest of the EU in line. All that will do is feed the Fregress (coined one!) or Frogress (coined another one!) sentiment, and put Marie Le Pen into power next year. Thanks Tolerance Sucks Rocks.

(and we will make it as painful as we can to discourage others from leaving our Political Gulag.)

Why negotiate?

The Brits should just leave and tell the EU to F off.

This means President Trump should make sure we sign a good deal with Britain and stand together.

Their next major problem will involve imports through the tunnel, which has supplanted movement by ship. Persuading France to self-liberate may become very important.

France should have less ideological adherence to Germany, in comparison to Britain. Russia may still hold outsized influence with France; and, seek to nudge them apart from the EU.

“They are going to get their asses kicked by an emerging Trump led Ango-American alliance that they are forcing into existence”

I think you’re onto something, rdcbn. A joint Anglo-American bomber squadron flying low and slow over Brussels would gain quite a bit of attention from the fascist/commie bureaucrats.

Its all a ruse to have Cameron lead the exit negotiations instead of the next prime minister.

That way the EU will get the best terms and the UK will be rolled under.

Britain should delay any negotiations until the next pro-UK prime minister is elected.

Cameron said he’ll be out in the fall, I think the negotiations won’t be completed by then. Hmm, just re-read the posted parts of the article:

Cameron said he would leave the negotiations to his successor.
