A drone operator's classified testimony reportedly gives credence to allegations that Democrats and a Pentagon political appointee tried to stonewall efforts of the GOP-led House Benghazi Select Committee to question witnesses.
Lawnews.com writer Chris White on Thursday posted a summary from Benghazi committee head Rep. Trey Gowdy on the June testimony from "John from Iowa," who called into Sean Hannitys radio program in 2013 and said he'd been a drone sensor operator the night of the deadly Sept. 11, 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic outpost. "This drone sensor operator confirmed details the committee learned at the same time [the Department of Defense] was claiming it was 'expend[ing] significant resources to locate' him," the summary from the South Carolina GOP lawmaker states.
"The Air Force knew exactly who had called into the talk radio show in 2013. In other words, Johns testimony raises serious questions with respect to the representations made by a Pentagon political appointee."
Gowdy added:
"It now appears DOD had knowledge well in advance of who and where John was, but claimed he could not be located anyway. They claimed 'significant resources' had been spent attempting to find him, but given the facts, its hard to imagine just how much incompetence would be required for that to be true."

....Speaking of unsubstantiated allegations that turn out to be false, a few years ago the New York Times published another error-riddled piece involving Nunes and Ellis, by Jason Zengerle:
Zengerle claims Nunes pushed Rogers to pursue leads that didn’t check out. He claims Nunes ‘had heard that a drone operator at an American air base in Germany said a drone had been flying over the Benghazi compound during the raid and captured video of the incident. According to a source familiar with the investigation, Rogers sent a committee staff member, Michael Ellis, to Germany to find and interview the American drone operator—who, it turned out, wasn’t even in the drone unit that covered Libya and had been telling tales to his parents, which had somehow made their way to Nunes.’
Apparently none of this is true. Ellis never went to Germany, according to multiple sources on the House Intelligence Committee familiar with his travels. And Nunes said the first time he even heard this story was with Zengerle telling it: ‘I don’t know anything about a drone operator and I have no idea what they’re talking about there.’...
