The first wave of the Trump tidalwave has broken on the British shores.
There's a lot about Pres. Lincoln to admire, he was a decent God-fearing man, but he got the Framers wrong and what the Union should be, in my humble opinion.
Despite Pres. Lincoln's many attributes and wisdom on so many other matters regarding Federal governance, he got the core things wrong, freedom of association, the First Amendment and 9th and 10th.
How can the spirit of freedom be upheld by the crushing power of the Federal government over-riding the will of the voters of those states?
I may be a far-North yankee, but on purely constitutional considerations, Pres. Lincoln was in the wrong.
The Federal Government can pretend that people are "free" when they have the people at gunpoint/bayonets.
Sorry to wander off topic a bit, but most people then and now just generally want the government to leave them and their property the hell alone

With all the talk of “Washington K-Street lobbyists”, I went to Google Maps and took a look at K Street in Google Street View. It was an eye-opener. Those people have gotten absolutely *filthy* rich selling our country out.
How about all the way down to the individual ? Why not have everybody choose what TYPE of government they favor — Conservative or Liberal. Your ID would tell which group you belong to. Each group decides what laws to make, and what government programs to participate in. You vote on issues within your group, and pay taxes within your group to pay for the government you want.
So Conservatives would pay taxes to fund national defense and judiciary and infrastructure, but pay for no welfare or public school and are not eligible for benefits in those programs. Conservatives cannot be sued for refusing service to anyone for any reason, like baking a cake because they are gay. Liberals can pay the costs to incarcerate murderers and rapists and child molesters for life, while Conservative will pay $1 for a bullet to the brain.
Of course all this stuff has long passed into history and the people surrounding Pres. Lincoln throughout the years developed their own agendas, this is an account of someone who actually knew him in his own time, at least by reputation.

Maybe I'm not too old to have a ray of optimism just for once, if it's even real.
There were maybe three men very close to Lincoln who said the same thing. Herndon, his long time law partner. Lincoln’s personal friend and bodyguard Ward Hill Lamon was another.
And guess where Trump just happens to be now. Yep, the good old UK.
