Dr. Ben Carsons brilliance is beyond debate. However, there is a definite reason why I would trust the famed neurosurgeon to operate on my childs brain and not entrust him with the Oval Office.
Now, the former presidential candidate has declared that it is time to put on the table a discussion on whether or not we actually need the Second Amendment.

BC, shows his true leftist leanings. Stay away from this fraud .
Apparently, you misunderstand my view. Essentially, I agree with the author. BC proposes an intelligent discussion re our "need" for the 2d. That need is not negotiable and as a matter of fact, the need today is perhaps as great or greater than the need that existed when the 2d was ratified.
Now, if you contend BC is throwing down the gauntlet then I disagree. In any event how does one throw down a gauntlet and convince the ill-informed to change a position? {;^)
You do not cut and slash on your whim.
Intelligence is a quality of dubious utility, anyway. I probably should have said Dr. Carson isn’t as WISE as our Founders. Some of them were intellectually brilliant, but many were just patriots with common sense.
Your view is precisely why the Left has made inroads promoting gun control and whittling away the 2nd Amendment. My take is that Carson wants to have a public discourse about the 2nd Amendment that flushes out the Left and reveals their true intentions. Trust me, the Left does NOT want to have this debate.
The 2nd Amendment is either relevant or an anachronism. You, I, FReepers, and conservatives/libertarians know that it's not up for debate, no discussion, it's written in titatinium. Unfortunately, there is a large swath of Americans who listen to the Dems talk about gun control and nod their heads furiously in agreement without understanding the ramifications, unintended consequences, or history.
Think like a knee-jerk liberal for a change. Gun rights groups need to talk about the 2nd Amendment and point out that millions have died under regimes that enacted strict gun controls, not to mention freed blacks who were denied guns and were lynched. Carson is putting the debate out there, and he should be commended for it. I don't know his true intentions, if he's really out to undermine the 2nd, then he should be condemned. But my theory is that he's telling the Left to put-up or shut-up.
“Sorry Dr. Ben. Adios.”

Ditto, RKT
Ben Carson is not talking about negotiating, but challenged the media establishment to “talk about it like intelligent [people] rather than getting in our respective corners and hurling insults”. As for giving “no quarter”, can you own a machine gun without a government license? Can you freely move about the country if the government puts you on its “no fly” list? “Conservatives” in the establishment have given up so much “quarter” that we maybe have a one-sixty-fourth left.
So stop being stuck on stupid! Donald Trump and his team, which includes Ben Carson, is working to change this, and your constant sniping isn’t helping the effort. I know that “conservatives” have disappointed us in the past, but as the Tediban and the GOPe continuously reminded us: Donald Trump is NOT A CONSERVATIVE! And that is turning out to be a good thing! ;-)
don’t forget the best part...saying they did repeal it, then they gotta enforce it..that”s when it gets good. trying to take 300 million weapons from 90 million people over 6 million square miles.
Lets put gun grabbers on the table and ask the same question. I mean, we know the answer, but let’s take this slowly...very slowly.
They have certainly earned a trip to woodshed, trash and on the funeral pyre.
My view? That is nonsense. The left has made inroads across the board because it is passionate about an agenda - gun control is just one facet.
Inroads? Look at the WH and the character and political inclinations of this administration's past and current personnel. Look at our nation's education system, K through post-graduate. Look at the results of Political Correctness.
My take is that Carson wants to have a public discourse about the 2nd Amendment that flushes out the Left...
Agreed, and by definition that isn't going to happen. Who will moderate that discourse? Gwen Ifill? The MSM? How likely is it the left will change its position?
IMO, BC's desire for a conversation compares with beauty pageant contestants who desire the world to be free of poverty.
Have a nice evening. Seriesly.
Not sure how VRWCarea51 got involved but if your comments above are directed at me...then I will take your advice and stop exchanging with you.
All I'm saying is, where is OUR passion? There is none. Where are the slick ads, the emotional, heart-string tugging spots about defenseless women exercising their 2nd Amendment rights and blowing away the bad guys who ignore a restraining order harassing them?
The NRA or GOA should be running ads featuring how the 20th century was the most bloodiest of all human history thanks in part to gun control.
If Carson can get the Left to reveal their true objectives, then more power to him. You have to remember that Carson posed the question as to why people don't fight back when there's an active shooter. That alone caused stomach cramps and nausea among the liberal elites and changed the narrative.
I'm not defending Carson nor criticizing him. I'm just thinking that he's daring the Left to come out and say they want to abolish the 2nd. We need to have this debate instead of allowing the Left to continuously increment their agenda.
How dare you catch me reacting to a sound bite!
Guilty.
But when asked whether people should be allowed to own “semi-automatic weapons,” the doctor replied: “It depends on where you live. I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated. However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”
Yup. Another instance where he had to be “re-advised” and changed his position. Kinda.
Ben Carson is one of the biggest political scams in a generation.
