Voting is under way in a historic referendum on whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union or leave. A record 46,499,537 people are entitled to take part, according to provisional figures from the Electoral Commission. Polling stations opened at 07:00 BST and will close at 22:00 BST. It is only the third nationwide referendum in UK history and comes after a four-month battle for votes between the Leave and Remain campaigns. In common with other broadcasters, the BBC is limited in what it can report while polls are open but you can follow the results as they come in across the BBC after polls close on Thursday evening.

Yes indeed. The blockquote above is from The UK's EU referendum: All you need to know - BBC, which outlines the proposed changes.
"Leaving" is an orderly process, with implementation taking years, and occuring in stages.
I doubt leaving happens even if the referendum passes. The point of the vote is to stifle any restive urge on the part of the public. It makes the public "feel" like its point of view matters. This feeling is enhanced by the press, which spouts simplistic lies that lead to a false inmpression that the popular vote is conclusive.
Quite a bit, in my opinion. The EEA countries have political independence.
"When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always."
-- Mahatma Gandhi
Is the voting (i.e., counting) process transparent?
Certain areas in the States are so rampantly dishonest, the outcome of those elections have no bearing on actual votes.
What has been gained? - TIME! It will take a long time to extricate any country from the EU. There are laws from 1973 on the British law books, treaties, trade agreements with third party countries, all of which have to be rewritten and renegotiated. That takes time. EEA would be a safe half-way harbour.
And don’t buy into the lie that Norway has to
obey faxes from the EU Commission (BTW who uses fax these days?).
In reality Norway has more to say about rules and regulations than the UK has now! That is a hidden secret that unfortunately the Leave campaign has been unable to explain (understand?).
Good luck today and I hope that freedom and independence win the day for Britain. A victory for the Leaves should also bode well for Trump here in November as it will demonstrate that there is indeed a “silent majority” out there that is being understated by conventional polling.
Speaking of Trump, he plans to be in Great Britain tomorrow. Coincidence?
I have a question, why would the assassination of Jo Cox help the Remains? Would people really be so intimidated that they would switch their vote out of fear of more violence?
Sympathy, not fear or intimidation.
Thank you for posting this thread. We can do nothing from here but pray for you and that we will do!
A little rain would keep some Britons from coming out to vote on such a historical issue? Shame! One can’t be expected to leave the EU if one won’t leave his own house over a little weather.
That might actually be a slight factor - but more significantly with people who were on the fence, sympathy for what has happened may shift them to her side, and unfortunately, while most people arguing to leave are not racists, there were - are - some racists on that side of the debate and this gave the racists and extremists more publicity - which would lead some people to shift.
If I was eligible, I'd still have voted Leave after Jo Cox's death - but I'd prefer not to be reminded of some of my fellow travellers who want it for very different reasons than I do.
Hilrie and basketball King obomer boff want the UK to stay. It’s their shared communistic socialistic tick.
Either way it’s rather sad that people would allow emotion to override conviction. It would be like if Bill Clinton died and Trump voters went over to the other side out of sympathy. I detest that sort of moral weakness.
Good luck.
Now GO TAKE YOUR COUNTRY BACK!!
First get out of the EU, then send the Mohammedans packing.
Best of luck! The Brussels monster must be destroyed. This could be the first step.
Pray for Brexit. It will push Trump to the top and start a world wide conservative backlash.
Listen, strange bureaucrats lyin’ in Brussels distributin’ rules is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical European Union.
May God bless you and your wonderful Kingdom. The sun may have set on your empire, but she will never set on what you created. The Magna Carta, and its descendants down through the centuries, will always shine on in the minds of those who have eyes to see.
As we watch your results from afar, he to-day that votes for Brexit shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile, this day shall gentle his condition.
If Brexit wins, I will open some Fullers Special Ale, stand in a box, and sing Jerusalem at the top of my lungs.
Cheers!
Free Americans are pulling for our beleaguered cousins. Rule Britannia!
Prayers from Arkansas, USA!
I think there is a lot riding on this vote; perhaps the most important vote in the history of mankind.
