SUV That Killed Anton Yelchin Was Under Recall
Trek news ^ | June 20, 2016

The gear shifters in Anton Yelchin’s SUV are being looked at as the possible culprit in the accident that killed the 27-year-old actor on Sunday.

Most 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee are part of a global recall that was announced by Fiat Chrysler, who makes Jeeps, in April due to a confusing electronic shift lever.

“FCA US extends its most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Yelchin,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “The company is in contact with the authorities and is conducting a thorough investigation. It is premature to speculate on the cause of this tragedy.”

Yelchin was killed after his Jeep rolled backwards, pinning him against a brick mailbox at his Studio City home. He was discovered by friends early Sunday morning.

The shifter on my Mazda just has P-R-N-D.

There is a manual - no clutch shift option that I seldom use. The transmission has 6 speeds

SUV’s are killers. We should put a temporary ban on them until we figure out how to screen these killers.

We are so close to the equator that that the days are about the same. It gets dark now about 6:45PM and gets light about 6:15 AM year round. That will move about 15 minutes back in the winter.

The only issue now is the El Nino which is delaying the rainy season so it is Dallas hot right now. I actually had to water the vegetable plots the past three weeks (Oh the horror!)I want the rainy season to come and cool us down. Normally the weather is the best part about this place

It does not look like the “SUV” killed anyone. It looks like the driver got out of the vehicle while driving and was crushed to death. Sad and tragic, but SUV didn’t kill.

As there were no witnesses and SUV cannot be forced to testify against itself, I'm confident that it rolls away scot-free.

Irregardless. (had to get that in)

I just realized this - It’d be wierd for me to live between the Tropics as the sun would go from south of overhead to north of same and back.

It reads almost like one of those grisly deaths the bodachs from that Dean Koontz movie would arrange for anybody they suspect can see them.

My Tacoma is a manual and it’s a reflex to set the brake after shutting down.

At some point, probably when the transmission on my venerable Willys has to come out, I will budget out for getting the emergency brake fixed since it clamps the the rear drive shaft.

My Mechanic and his Family and 3 of his employees drive Mazdas.
He is not a dealer. He suggest a Mazda to replace my wife’s Durango.

Mazdas are frequently called the poor man’s BMW. They’re peppy, stylish and have above average ground clearance for today’s declining road conditions.

If he drove a newer V6 Acura, he’d still be alive.

The transmission is push button. If you open the door and go more than about a tenth of a mile an hour, the brake locks up and the transmission goes into park.

It’s slightly annoying if you’ve got the door open trying to squeeze past something but the mirrors turn down and the backup camera is good so that’s not really an issue.
