Donald Trump already the bane of many establishment Republicans is now in a new battle with the GOP rank-and-file over gun control measures.
The Washington Post reports that Trump's surprise call for congressional action on new gun-control legislation is getting the cold shoulder from his party and likely pit GOP lawmakers against their presumptive presidential nominee.
The new wrinkle comes as Capitol Hill tries to cope with calls for new gun laws in the wake of Sunday's attack in Orlando, in which a gunman with terrorist allegiances killed 49 people and injured 53 at a crowded nightclub.
Sen. Jeff Sessions, an Alabama Republican and Trump supporter, told The Post: "There's nothing wrong with [Trump] trying to energize the discussion on it and work out something that would be healthy and that we can all agree on."

Some Cruz supporters would be ecstatic. They think Mrs. Clinton would pave the way for Cruz in ‘20.
That would explain a few things.
But not before she has installed 1-4 liberal activist judges on the Supreme Court and countless others on other federal courts.
Cruz is still young. There is plenty of time for him to run in ‘24.
It really would. There are some serious trolls in this world.
Yes, there are. Nice to see you, friend. :)
‘But not before she has installed 1-4 liberal activist judges on the Supreme Court and countless others on other federal courts.’
This is what I don’t understan. With a court packed with Sotomayors and Kagans, and 50 million-plus newly legalized permanent Dem voters, the ‘20 race would be irrelevant even if we could win it...which we couldn’t.
Thanks—it’s always nice to see you too!
I think what you are missing here as far as the argument goes is what is the process for putting people on the terror watch list? Its a secret and we all need to know the criteria. Otherwise the govt could put every combat vet and every tea partier who ever made a cryptic comment on social media on the terror watch list and voila’ you have millions denied their rights under the second amendment.
For me it doesn’t matter. Being placed on a list is not the same as a conviction of a crime and does not require the same burden of proof (proof beyond a reasonable doubt) nor due process. There is no fair trial, no presumption of innocence until proven guilty. It is simply a secret government list.
There are many, many well documented cases of people being put on the list wrongly and then having an exceedingly difficult time getting off of it. What’s more, it would not have solved a single thing in any of the previous acts of domestic terror. Not at all. It is simply a feel good measure designed by politicians to make it look like they are doing something.
I have several conservative friends who support this like Mr Trump, and it boggles my mind. It is like they don’t understand the concept of rights. When asked if they would support people being on the terror list losing their right to unreasonable searches or seizures, their right to speak freely, their right to vote, or the right to be protected from cruel and unusual punishment, they say “of course not.” Why is it different when it comes to this right?
Well my personal opinion has always been that if you are enough of a threats to be on a terror wastch list you should not be in the country.
Maybe but not an easy thing to fix with citizens. You can’t just throw their name on an enemies of the state list and deport them without due process. Would you be comfortable with Hillary being able to place your name on a list and take away your rights without any due process?
This probably helps Trump with some voters. Not me, though...
“If you are voting for someone other than DJT, you should not be posting that on this site. This is a 100% Trump site.”

So much for “Free” Republic. If anyone disagrees should they just be taken out to the brick wall now or send them to the Gulag first?
Nice knowing ya.
Neither.
Jim just throws them out of his house.
You still have the freedom to say whatever you want.
Again, like clockwork, someone doesn’t hold the same views as you and it’s minimize, accuse, dismiss as ignorant or a plant. enjoy your monochrome world, I prefer full color.
Bwahahaha! Dude, seriously? Are you looking in a mirror?
Pot to kettle, pot to kettle, come in kettle!
Kettle here, go ahead pot.
Roger kettle, you are black. I say again, you are black. That is all. Over.
That’s correct.
Our country was founded as a Free Republic. This site is not run as a “democracy” or a “free republic”.
The owner of this site, Jim Robinson, has made repeated requests to stop trashing Trump and Trump supporters on his privately owned site.
Jim recognizes that the state of our union is so dire, we need to get 100% behind Mr. Trump or get out of the way. We have a nation to save.
It’s Jim’s “house” here. He is THE BOSS in his own house. He has made his request numerous times if you don’t think you can comply with his rules, to please “take it elsewhere”.
His House = His Rules
Thank you.
But just to point out - I didn't trash anyone in my post. Just questioning the blind loyalty. It typically does not end well.
You are right, you did not trash DJT, but posting that you are going to vote for someone else isn’t helpful to advancing the goal of this site.
Jim loves this country so much, Mac, as I am sure you do, too!
He wants to do everything possible to lend his support to DJT so that HRC will not get to the WH. That is certain death for this country, as you no doubt know. So this is his way of doing his part.
There are so many globalists/marxists/commies/socialists who are doing everything they can think of to keep their middle-class robbing, self-enriching schemes in tact. DJT threatens their “system” like no other candidate ever has. That’s why we are seeing this massive effort to take him down.
We don’t want to aid and abet the enemy with even more trashing of DJT.
Discussion/debate of the issues is allowed on Jim’s site. I read and learn from this site every day. I think if (other) people are respectful and don’t continually try to bash him, it would be okay. If we disagree with DJT on an issue, we can express that thought.
What I see on this site overnite is shocking to me, with (other) posters’ blatant comments violating what Jim has asked us to do. Hopefully they will stop doing this.
Thanks for your post, Mac.
