West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin told an MSNBC panel on Thursday that the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is "killing us" in terms of preventing gun violence.
Mr. Manchin, a Democrat, referred to due process as an inconvenient "firewall" when it comes to denying Americans firearms.
Money quote: "So can't we say that if a person is under suspicion, there should be a five-year period of time that we have to see if good behavior, if this person continues the same traits?"

A thought that is always timely, but particularly apropos here.
I don't trust Republicans either, they've been pretty willing to roll over and play dead for all the crap that's been foisted on us in the past decade… when they're not actively stabbing us in the back, that is.
(Remember just before the 2014 elections? How the Republican leadership was all ready and gung-ho to push through amnesty?)

Sure, Joe. Let's suspend a civil right for 5 years with no due process. I'll go along with that, as long as the bill includes a provision to remove anyone voting for an unconstitutional law from federal office, and prohibits them from running for five years.

No. He worked for G4S (formerly Wackenhut), which has a contract with DHS to handle illegal immigrants out West (along with providing mall-cop security and a thousand other security-related functions worldwide). Mateen worked as a guard at a gated community.
