Yale University has found itself embroiled in controversy once again this year after English students complained that courses in the department were 'hostile' to students of color.
Under the most fire is the Major English Poets course, a prerequisite for undergraduates in the major to study the works of at least seven major poets, all of whom are white men.
An anonymous petition has demanded the department not only change the English 125/126 course, which has existed since 1920, but abolish it entirely. It also asks that the major's pre-1800/1900 requirements be changed to include literature relating to 'gender, race and sexuality'.
'A year spent around a seminar table where the literary contributions of women, people of color and queer folk are absent actively harms all students, regardless of their identity,' it reads.

University is just an extension of high school, these days. They are a bunch of kids who have no real experience that grounds them to real life and so they keep up the asinine pretentiousness.They have way too much energy and they are way too undisciplined to focus on any actual academic work that requires focus and concentration.
I wonder how different these idiots would be if in fact they had to pay their own way through college/university. They would be too busy working to waste energy on this like this.

It would require the university to have some balls and then it would require the students to accept their rejection like an adult. If they did get expelled, I think buildings would burn.

It’s too bad that these were the universities that used to churn out the finest and most cultivated minds in the nation and now it’s just another playground for adolescents.
It’s a good plan, and they should also change the name to “Yale Community College”, too.

Well, not many employers are interested in hiring "______ Studies" majors, so they now want to make the Yale Liberal Arts degrees into something that any idiot can pass, so they can walk away with a degree that might get somebody to hire them.
The real issue is Yale admitting students who just have no business being there. The cure is raising admission standards (without regards to the effect on "diversity", and front-loading the freshman year with hard courses so that the intelligent-but-lazy either drop out or flunk out after the first semester.
