Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) attended a confidential dinner with more than 20 top conservatives on Tuesday night to plan his comeback as a movement leader in the mold of Ronald Reagan.
The dinner was at the Virginia home of conservative activist Brent Bozell, and the agenda was to plot Cruzs future and the future of the conservative movement. The undertone of the dinner was about how to position Cruz for a future tilt at the presidency and to spearhead the conservative movement from his seat in the Senate, those in attendance said.
Dining with Cruz and his chief of staff, Paul Teller, were some of the most powerful figures in the conservative movement.
The spectrum of economic, national security and social conservatives seated at the table included Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, Club for Growth President David McIntosh, direct-mail guru Richard Viguerie, National Rifle Association board member and former Cincinnati Mayor Ken Blackwell, and Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, sources confirmed.
According to those in attendance, the leaders discussed how they could work more effectively together and how to harness their vast financial and human networks in the service of conservative principles and Cruz's career.
Combined, those at the table have access to hundreds of millions of dollars and some of the largest ground armies on the right.
There was no specific discussion of electoral politics or whether Cruz will support presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump this cycle.
Many of the leaders at the dinner want Cruz to run for president again, and they are viewing Cruzs unsuccessful 2016 run as similar to Reagans failed attempt in 1976 to unseat the incumbent Republican president, Gerald Ford.

Does anybody believe that future election run doesn’t mean this cycle? They are most assuredly nor stratagizing for 2020. The greasy Cuban snake is plotting something for right now.
He is on a mission to get TPP through.
It isn’t a secret dinner if we are discussion it.
Just saying.
Yes.
They don't.
Cruz is hoping for a Trump loss so he can run in 2020. Ted Cruz didn’t honor the pledge, his supporters are actively using liberal talking points on Twitter and various forums to destroy Trump, and he has done nothing to stop it. I will NEVER vote for Ted Cruz.
He is on a mission to get TPP through.
Yup
What's he got to do to court them? Apparently fighting Islam, fighting for low taxes, deregulation, against TPP and globalisn, fighting for the country, doesn't appeal to these self-righteous scumbags.
I hear you. He’s ruthless.
Bullpuckey!!
Trump has been courting ALL true conservatives daily ...by his message. To repeat: Wall on the border; only legal immigration; fair trade; America first; protection of the 2nd Amendment; strong military; reduce out of control national debt; bring back jobs to U.S. by reducing regulations and promoting manufacturing.
ANY conservative who hasn't gotten that by now is not conservative!! As Trump likes to say, I don't care what you call it, let's make America great again!
Trump has no reason to kiss anyone's butt at this point. The choice is Hillary or Trump. Anyone who can't see the difference is voluntarily blind!
Next!!
GOPe Star Chamber, eh?
“Bitch, you don’t have a future.”
- Kill Bill 2
You mean "conservatives" that would elect a Canadian for.....any public office?
A dog returns to his vomit.
These guys aren’t meeting to try and put the paddles on Cruz’s flatlined political career.
They’re meeting to talk about ways they might be able to jam a stick in Trump’s spokes this summer so they can lose to their colleagues the Democrats and save their hoity toity jobs.
They know that Trump is going to go through them like a dose of salts.
“True conservatives” I’m still savoring that one.
Some are some aren’t. Bozell isn’t dead to me. He went full neverTrump.
Cruz is nearly dead to me having STILL not thrown in with Trump and STILL didfling around the edges. There will be NO “conservative” ever win again who doesn’t get behind Trump, and soon-—certainly not the presidency.
Oh, and eight years is a long time to wait for the presidency.
Unlike others, I’m not willing to toss Cruz into the dustbin of history but I think he should take a long hiatus from national politics for a while and focus on his senatorial duties.
They achieved maximum email inbox spam.
Their agenda didn’t say anything about the future of America, under either president Trump or Hillary.
It is all focused on Cruz, in the name of ‘conservative movement’. Also Cruz is not likeable like Reagan, he doesn’t have the personal skill.
See my previous reply about what they may be planning with the gun issue. Or some similar version of that.
Regardless, they've already proven they can't be trusted. And whoever is reading this, you must remember, some of the NeverTrumpers honestly think Cruz/Rubio/Bush/et al could actually WIN (hahaha), while the other NeverTrumpers would rather Hillary win than Trump so their gravy train will remain intact.
Either way, if they try something to oust Trump, Hillary will win.
You're joking. Cruz was pro-amnesty up until November when he flip flopped on live television, lying that he had "never supported legalization" even though he had literally given several interviews where he made clear it was all still on the table.
Cruz is a globalist neo-con who manages to fool conservatives by sounding Christian and being strong on abortion. On virtually every other issue, from free trade, to the domestic terrorism at Trump rallies that he chooses to blame on Trump, Cruz is either insincere, a liar, or playing games to get votes.
