Top conservatives meet at secret dinner to discuss Cruz's future
The Hill ^ | 6/15/2016 | Jonathan Swan

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) attended a confidential dinner with more than 20 top conservatives on Tuesday night to plan his comeback as a movement leader in the mold of Ronald Reagan.

The dinner was at the Virginia home of conservative activist Brent Bozell, and the agenda was to plot Cruz’s future and the future of the conservative movement. The undertone of the dinner was about how to position Cruz for a future tilt at the presidency and to spearhead the conservative movement from his seat in the Senate, those in attendance said.

Dining with Cruz and his chief of staff, Paul Teller, were some of the most powerful figures in the conservative movement.

The spectrum of economic, national security and social conservatives seated at the table included Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, Club for Growth President David McIntosh, direct-mail guru Richard Viguerie, National Rifle Association board member and former Cincinnati Mayor Ken Blackwell, and Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, sources confirmed.

According to those in attendance, the leaders discussed how they could work more effectively together and how to harness their vast financial and human networks in the service of conservative principles and Cruz's career.

Combined, those at the table have access to hundreds of millions of dollars and some of the largest ground armies on the right.

There was no specific discussion of electoral politics or whether Cruz will support presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump this cycle.

Many of the leaders at the dinner want Cruz to run for president again, and they are viewing Cruz’s unsuccessful 2016 run as similar to Reagan’s failed attempt in 1976 to unseat the incumbent Republican president, Gerald Ford.

‘I’d be surprised if Ted gave his approval in advance.’

Here comes your surprise:

‘”From [what] I understand [Cruz] asked his people if they were doing anything with the image I’d created and when they said no he asked why not,” Sabo told The Hill in an email.’

““David McIntosh and Club for Growth are “true conservatives”? That’s funny stuff.
They are a nest of cheap labor stooges. “

And they are Al Sharpton “emulators” when they come to Trump and ask him to pony up a million bucks to fund their little open borders conspiracy, with the acknowledged threat that if he doen’t ply them with the cash, they will spend half that amount trashing him on the airwaves. Why or why can these terrorists at least help out by taking action where they could help themselves AND us.

Well, I did think Cruz was OK until I learned more about him. The fact that Cruz joined up with Romney, Bush, Walker, Kasich, and Carly to not honor the pledge they signed to support the nominee is not honorable. Trump won fair and square and in my opinion they are just a bunch of sore losers.

Never mind the fact that Cruz is a Globalist and in favor of the TPP.

And President Ford was just a benign idiot, whereas Cruze is an alien globalist, bent on destruction of our country.

“I wouldn’t vote for Cruz after what he’s shown himself to be this election cycle”

Some also feel that way about Trump. I think it is shortsighted, but to each his own.

“Cruz needs to head back to the Hill and fight the RINOs.”

No, he needs to end his career in the Senate, because he didn't do anything while he's been there but just stir his own pot to our country's detriment.

Should the unthinkable happen and Trump loses to Hillary, he should run against Lyin’ Ted in 2020 just to drive him & this snake shaking cult totally insane.

Such a bogus story......something only Cruz could dream up.

Loves the sound of his voice....... and seeing his name in the news is worth a few bucks.

My thoughts, too. What the hell are they doing going to Cruz?

In fact, I would ask Freepers to make a list of Cruz’s missteps since he lost BESIDES not endorsing Trump. Let me start:

1) He took an immediate vacation, having NOT done his senate job for about four months.

2) While on vacation, he missed a critical vote (someone help me-—I can’t remember which one it was now-—Planned Parenthood?

I think Cruz should stop cheating on and beating on his wife. The guy is a major douchebag.

They still don’t get it—Cruz is just a stiff, bad candidate. He is not likable,
and fails to connect. Half his problem is a very unfortunate personality, issues aside.

I agree with that, but he has made very stupid campaign choices in terms of who he blames for violence (i.e., Trump), in not getting behind Trump’s Muslim ban, and so on.

Makes me think he isn’t half the “conservative” he pretends to be.
