A NATION OF COWARDS
The Public Interest ^ | 1993 | Jeffrey Snyder

Posted on 06/15/2016 9:50:04 AM PDT by jdege

Given recent news, I thought it was time to put this back in the memepool:

It is impossible to address the problem of rampant crime without talking about the moral responsibility of the intended victim. Crime is rampant because the law-abiding, each of us, condone it, excuse it, permit it, submit to it. We permit and encourage it because we do not fight back, immediately, then and there, where it happens. Crime is not rampant because we do not have enough prisons, because judges and prosecutors are too soft, because the police are hamstrung with absurd technicalities. The defect is there, in our character. We are a nation of cowards and shirkers.

But, I agree with you, that a half dozen or a dozen would have easily overcome that guy.

I doubt it had anything to do with their sexual leanings...if they had learned anything about weapons they would know he had to reload..or change to his handgun..even that would have run out of ammo..then charge..hmm how strong is our military now?

what BS.

and how exactly do you fight back against break in, car theft, etc?

and if you are a young child or a woman with family in a bad neighborhood, how do you fight back?

like i said, total BS theory

The author is a blowhard asshat. Easy to be a desk jockey demanding OTHER people who WERE ACTUALLY THERE, do more. But that’s the path of true cowardice.

Thank God we don’t. I don’t want to live under a police state dictatorship for the sake of “safety”. Freedom has risks, but it has the great reward.

Oh yeah the ever popular “somebody should have charged” idea. Pure desk jockey Monday morning BS. Unarmed people that charged armed killers aren’t brave, they’re idiots, the best thing they accomplish is being a short lived human shield for somebody else to get away.

The 9-11 folks were in a vast different situation. There was no way out, and by that point they knew their planned fate. In a situation where there actually are exits the smart move is to use one, not blindly charge and hope there’s so many of you somebody managed to tackle him.

Are you sure there is a surge for Hillary?

Please back it up. Thank-you!

If you are behind him or to the side of him and he is firing at the exit, what do you do? Run to the exit, lie down and wait for him to turn around and shoot you, or attack?

Where I work .. see my profile .. it is absolutely forbidden to have a firearm or any knife big enough to defend yourself with.

I have an old 9-iron in one corner of my office and a cricket bat .. much nastier than a baseball bat .. behind my desk. Both can be explained away, but both could be very effective weapons, in the absence of anything better, should the need arise.

They certainly don't teach that stuff in school anymore. When I was growing up we used to take out our cap pistols at lunch and run around the playground shooting each other, playing good guys v. bad guys. Now if you even mention a gun in a public school you get expelled.

In light of these ongoing public shootings, we need to inform the public about tactics to keep casualty counts to a minimum. This guy not only stopped to reload probably a dozen times, but he also took the time to call 911 and give his verbal manifesto.

Sure IF you’ve got a lucky shot. But that’s situational. Chances you don’t have that shot. People watch too many action movies, in reality the guy comes in the front door and starts shooting, all the folks in the “easy” zone to stop him are the first ones hit. Especially in a loud dance club, probably most folks don’t even know something is going on until he’s “cleared” a pretty large circle around him. At that point your options are try to be a hero hoping others will follow and probably dying pointlessly, or try to get the hell out. The right answer is get out if you can, help others if possible, but the whole “follow me” bum rush thing is by and large Hollywood balderdash.

“Are you sure there is a surge for Hillary?

There was a poll out today with Hillary up 49% to 37%.

Gullups daily approval rating fro 0bama jumped up to 53% today.

I know, I shouldn’t pay attention to these dang polls, but I though for sure Hillary and 0bama bombed out the way they responded to the Islamic attack they would tank.

I just fear a Hillary presidency greatly. I need to stay away from the news.

I look at those polls as being fraud polls or people who lie to the poll takers because they do not want to be looked down upon.

God made man, but Sam Colt made them equal.

“We need to have a “Let’s Roll” attitude when these events happen. And they will happen. Again and Again until we all learn to fight back and use every weapon at our disposal.”

I hate it that we’re not doing all we can to ensure that it doesn’t happen again and again.

I have a bag of whiffle golf balls in my desk drawer, so that I can go out during lunch and practice my chipping in the nearby field ...

...and I have a photo on the wall, directly above the cricket bat, of my late-stepson .. who was Australian .. using that bat in a cricket match.
