The U.S. Air Force has lost records concerning 100,000 investigations into everything from workplace disputes to fraud.
A database that hosts files from the Air Forces inspector general and legislative liaison divisions became corrupted last month, destroying data created between 2004 and now, service officials said. Neither the Air Force nor Lockheed Martin, the defense firm that runs the database, could say why it became corrupted or whether theyll be able to recover the information.
Lockheed tried to recover the information for two weeks before notifying the Air Force, according to a service statement.
The Air Force has begun asking for assistance from cybersecurity professionals at the Pentagon as well as from private contractors.
Somebody was getting too close to the truth.
No backups? How freaking incompetent.
Our government, If they can’t get hacked, they’ll do it themselves.
How professional! /S
No backups? More precedents for Hillary!
Sometimes a crash can be a catastrophe; other times it can be a very timely convenience.
I used to be a system manager. We had backups upon backups. Just saying.
BS. It was wiped by someone in the govt.
They must have got the cloth to erase them from Hillary.
What about the copies on the mountain of paper ?
How Conveeeeeeeenient.
Backups are so standard and routine that this goes beyond incompetence. As someone noted above, this was clearly an intentional act to hide something.
All they have to do is simply restore the data from their backups.
...like with a SHAMWOW?
The Roswell stuff - including Al Gore’s birth record - is now gone. :)
I mean isn’t that one of the biggest jobs of being a systems manager? Isn’t that why it’s an important job? How do they seriously not have a functioning backup server that they can just pull online, losing maybe one or two days’ work
they don’t use back-ups? No storage? No archives?
Apparently when it comes to government spending, record keeping is not a high priority.
ALL of the backup copies gone too?
How strange!
////
I’m pretty sure it is less innocent than simple incompetence.
