Former President Bill Clinton said Tuesday that more people would have died at the terrorist attack at a nightclub in Orlando over the weekend if club-goers had been armed and shot back at the lone gunman.
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg Live at the Clinton Global Initiative, the former president was asked to respond to Donald Trump
s claim that there would have been fewer deaths if those at the nightclub had been carrying firearms.
Did you see how dark it was? Clinton said. Its likely that more people would have been killed.
A gunman of Afghan descent who claims to have been inspired by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria killed 49 people and wounded dozens more in an attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Omar Mateen, who was killed after an hours-long stand-off with police, was armed with a handgun and an AR-15 rifle affixed with high-capacity magazines that permit the rapid firing of ammunition.
It was the worst mass shooting in U.S. history and worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11.
The tragedy has reignited debate over the nations gun, immigration and intelligence gathering laws, as well as political correctness and the nature of Islam.
Clinton on Tuesday pushed for a ban on assault weapons, arguing that gun deaths dropped sharply after he signed a ban as president in the 1994. The act expired in 2004.
It worked pretty well, Clinton said of the ban.. Then when it was allowed to expire. For a while we didnt seem to have uptick in crime, but look at what happened with big weapons at Sandy Hook and Aurora, Colorado and most recently in Orlando and San Bernardino, California.
Its clear that if youre firing a lot of ammunition in a short amount of time with a weapon designed to kill, more people will die than if youre stuck with a pistol, Clinton continued. If [the Orlando shooter] just had a pistol, nobody believes he could have killed 49 people.
Honesty, I don’t know what to say about this. While I am fortunate to live in the most free gun zone in the US (AZ), I don’ think anyone in a nightclub that serves alcohol should be armed. Alcohol changes all rationality and factors regarding responsible gun handling. This is an attempt to support the lefts gun position.
Bill and Hillary Clinton claim America escalated the killing sin WWII when we killed the Germans and Japanese.
How does he know what would have happened?
Does he have a crystal ball or something?
Bubba’s logic is just as sound as his wife’s...
Drop your security detail, Bill.
says the guy who on leaving office made sure his daughter has lifetime secret service protection?
has billy bub talked to anyone hiding on a bathroom stall or closet without a gun listening to screams in the dark?
I think those unfortunate souls who have attempted to hold up “cop bars” would vehemently disagree.
“More people would have died if club-goers were armed”
Excuse me for helping Bill out.
Bill’s argument is silly on its face.
A better argument would be “Over time we would have more deaths if drunk people all over the country carried guns in night clubs. The fifty lives saved in this situation would be outweighed by a larger number killed by armed angry drunks.”
Typical example of a clueless gun geek.
late stage syphilis leaves one’s brain fried
More than ever it is clear that people really do need to be able to take care of themselves. We used to say "when seconds count the police are minutes away" but in this case they were hours away from doing anything.
If any of the patrons had been able to even take a few shots at the gunman that would have given others the chance to escape. And if the police had simply acted like ordinary armed civilians, or any soldier or Marine, they would have rushed into the building and started dragging out the wounded - even if they needed to keep the gunman busy with fire aimed in his general direction.
I’m willing to make an exception with Bill’s mind.
Someone tell this syphilitic fool that "gun deaths" have been "dropping sharply" since at least 1980, and continued to "drop sharply" after 2004. The AWB had nothing to do with it.
Oh, and fists and feet still kill more Americans than rifles of all types, including the dreaded "assault rifle".
Agreed.
Keep in mind that his father came to the US under the Reagan Administration. Likely trying to escape the Afghan_Soviet war. The Father, having political ties would have been given priority.
The Son/Killer was born in 1989 in the US. I’m very curious exactly when did the father get here. What has the Father been doing since then. Where or how did he make a living while in the US ?
Was the Father an active member of the Mosque?
Did the Father have any influence at the Mosque?
Does the Father have political connections in the US?
As I posted to another thread, I believe the Father used his son as a jihadi tool.
When Florida passed the ‘right to carry’ law, the libtards went ballistic (puny huh) stating that there would be a blood bath with everyone shooting everyone else.
Did not happen.
This reprobate criminal should be exiled in disgrace. What a wasted fool.
Let these Tyrannical fools rant and rave.
And let decent, patriotic, red-blooded American see and hear these totalitarian demagogues for exactly what they are.
Anyone with a functioning brain knows beyond any doubt that having armed citizens present would almost certainly have reduced the carnage. A lone killer can't be looking everywhere at once. It would have been a relatively simple matter for an armed citizen to cap the guy in the back of the head the moment he turned his back or entered the next room.
Instead, hundreds of defenseless people, en masse, cowered in fear, each waiting for their turn to die, or, if lucky, to escape by the grace of God.
So, with their own hysterical rhetoric, let these f-----g idiots (like the rapist, Bill Clinton) dig their own graves, and be hoisted with their own petards.
Meanwhile, real Americans who are willing to fight for their Lives and Liberty, will vote for Donald Trump!
Any orifice in a storm, ehh Bill?
