THE POWER OF LOVE

What most people need to learn in life is how to love people and use things instead of using people and loving things.

This story will keep you singing!

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3-year-old son, Michael, prepare for a new sibling. Karen and her spouse found out that the new baby was going to be a girl, and day after day, night after night, Michael would sing to his sister in Mommy's tummy.

The pregnancy progressed normally for Karen, an active member of the Panther Creek United Methodist Church in Morristown Tenn.

Then the labor pains came. Every five minutes, every minute. But complications arose during delivery. Hours of labor.

Finally, Michael's little sister was born. But she was in serious condition. With siren howling in the night, the ambulance rushed the infant to the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital, in Knoxville Tenn.

The days inch by. The little girl gets worse. The pediatric specialist tells the parents, "there is very little hope. Be prepared for the worst."

Karen and her husband contact a local cemetery about a burial plot. They have fixed up a special room in their home for the new baby girl, but now they plan a funeral.

Michael keeps begging his parents to let him see his sister. " I want to sing to her," he says. Week two in intensive care...it looks as if a funeral will come before the week is over. Michael keeps nagging about singing to his sister, but kids are never allowed in the Intensive Care unit. But Karen makes up her mind.

She will take Michael whether they like it or not. If he doesn't see his sister now, he may never see her alive. Karen dresses him in an oversized scrub suit and marches him into the ICU. He looks like a walking laundry basket, but the head nurse recognizes him as a child and bellows, "Get that kid out of here NOW! No children are allowed."

The mother rises up strong in Karen, and the usually mild-mannered lady glares steel-eyed into the head nurse's face, her lips a firm line. "He is NOT leaving until he sings to his sister!"

Karen tows Michael to his sister's bedside. He gazes at the tiny infant losing the battle to live, and he begins to sing. In the pure hearted voice of a three year old. Michael sings; "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray..." Instantly the baby girl responds. Her pulse rate becomes calm and steady.

Keep singing Michael...

"You never know dear how much I love you, Please don't take my sunshine away..." Her ragged, strained breathing becomes as smooth as a kitten's purr.

Keep singing Michael...

"The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms..." Michael's little sister relaxes, as rest seems to sweep over her.

Keep singing Michael...

Tears conquer the face of the bossy head nurse. Karen glows. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. Please don't take my sunshine away."

Funeral plans are scrapped. The next day - the very next day - the little girl is well enough to go home! Woman's Day magazine called it "the miracle of a brother's song." The medical staff just called it a miracle. Karen called it a miracle of God's love!

NEVER GIVE UP ON THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE and remember MUSIC IS THE LANGUAGE OF HEAVEN!

God bless you and yours.

I was keeping an eye out for it. Get the right clouds in the sky and sunrises and sunsets can be really pretty.

I couldn’t see that cloud from the house but by the time I got to the spot out back to take pix, it was quite visible.

I kept hearing a deer “blowing” at me but it took a while to spot it. It was across the fields, standing close to the trees on the left of the pic.

What’s really cool at sunset is watching the farm come alive with sparkles. That’s when the lightning bugs wake up and start flying up from the grass. The whole place sparkles with them, like a fairy land.

Heading outside to finish watering flowers. The new hoses I bought are great and the flowers and my back are all happy. :-)

Be back shortly.

Flowers should be happy for a couple of days and by then, maybe we’ll get rain. I sure hope so! The air is filthy with dirt. You can smell it when you walk out the door, and the moon and stars are orange tonight. blech!!!

Hope your mom has settled down a bit by now.

Hope you got a couple of these. I like them so much better than heavy hoses.

Same thing though ours are called Flex-Able hoses. A friend told us last night that she’d gotten a couple of them last week and she loves them. I’ve been debating on trying them but wasn’t sure if they really worked as advertised. Her endorsement got me in gear and am I ever glad! I bought two 50 footers to hook together. We have regular hoses but lugging 100 ft. of them around the yard doesn’t make the ol’ back happy. These weigh next to nothing, even when water-filled.

My back still isn’t happy after hauling the watering can around a week or so ago and I was going to just let the flowers do the best they could on their own. Now I can keep the special ones - the ones from Dad - going without crippling myself any more. Whew!

Just took her her night time glucosamine and ibuprofen. She’s in bed, watching tv, and quiet. It’s been a long day running back and forth, trying to dispel the notion of helicopters and people in our yard.

I heard her tell my sister that “they” had been in our yard earlier cutting down our trees as well as the people across the street. We have probably been thru this 20 times today...NO ONE has been in our yard, not today or any time in the recent past, and NO ONE has cut down a single one of our trees.

Good for your friend and her suggestion. Your favorite flowers can now enjoy their water knowing Mom’s not killing herself to bring it.

Hoo boy! Sounds like she made up for her quiet day yesterday, doesn’t it? Not fun for you and it can’t be fun for her being upset all the time about all that “activity” in the yard.

Sounds like another day with her petunias is in order tomorrow. :-) They seem to calm her for the rest of the day.

She got hers in order to save a few shrubs that her mom planted years ago. Her mom’s been gone a while now and the shrubs are a nice reminder of her.
She has a bad heart and isn’t supposed to do too much in the way of strenuous things and hauling watering cans really isn’t an option for her. She saw the hoses at Wally World last week and decided what the heck.

So Wally World’s where I went today as soon as I’d shaken the cobwebs out. LOL! Should have gone last night after we got home from our night out, while it was cool. It was a roaster today. Still warm out there but comfortable so. Just muggy. And the air is cruddy. Still blowing my nose, feeling like my sinuses are full of dirt. LOL

I’ll get her out tomorrow onto the deck with her petunias.

I am so beat tonight, mentally exhausted. Think I’ll play a few tunes and try to get some sleep.

As much as you need rain, I hope it doesn’t rain until after she’s had some time outside.

Hope you’re able to get a GOOD night’s sleep so you’ll be refreshed in the morning.
