When Republicans have a severe communications mishap, all conservatives should be concerned about getting the situation righted as soon as possible.
If someone seeking to speak for all Republicans commits a seething unforced error, it must be addressed promptly so that voters know they can expect better moving forward.
I am referring, of course, to Paul Ryan.
Sure, Donald Trump could have been more precise in his complaint about Judge Gonzalo Curiel. Something like this: The Judges ethnicity poses no problem in and of itself. But there is an appearance of impartiality based on racial politics the judges membership in a pro-amnesty lawyers association is in direct conflict with my campaign policies.
What would that take, ten seconds? Fine-tuning Trumps phraseology is easy. Far more pressing is the issue of key Republicans choosing to lie about our presumptive nominee.
Senators Lindsey Graham and Mark Kirk issued a dual gasp, joined by Governor John Kasich and others in a collective recoil over the perceived affront to this unassailable judge. From Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on down, suggestions swirled that the judge deserved an apology.

New word. Cuckservative.
Absolutely amazing.
Not only does Trump have to run against the DemocRATS, he has to run against the Republican establishment as well.
People do miss the point of Trump’s remark.
He isn’t making a racist remark. He is accusing the judge of racism and bias.
Right or wrong, this is the charge. With the judge’s background, its not hard to imagine.
All the spineless ninnies got their panties in a wad, and it made them all cry. No wonder the GOP establishment is about the most hated creature on earth.
For way too long, dems, and particularly their minority plantation dwellers, have been given a free pass when it comes to radical affiliations. They’ve elected former Black Panthers, they have a Socialist running on their nomination who was endorsed by the Communist Party USA, and of course, 0bama was given a pass on his association with “Rev” Wright, Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. So, when La Raza raised its ugly head in the form of Judge Curiel, everyone gave him a pass, too. When Trump didn’t give him a pass, all the howling and crying began.
Of course, we all know that the judge thing was only to distract everyone’s attention away from the howling Mexican mobs waving the Mexican flag, burning the American flag, and assaulting Americans during Trump events for several months.
It blew up and lasted the whole week, giving hillary an opening, because of Gingrich's remarks.
Is Gingrich that dumb, speaking against Trump before Trump had the opportunity to clarify his remarks? Or is Gingrich actually a Republican party lapdog who has been working from inside the campaign? I wonder. Gingrich isn't stupid.
Fox did insert a piece describing the judge’s La Raza association after the initial off the rails attack.
They have not yet declared that it is the judge and not donald Trump that is the racist. That fact is percolating however
Nice Article !!! Paul Ryan Speaker of the house of Rats and the rest of Hardly Ables are in it to fill their own Pockets.
There used to be a minor cabinet member up here many, many years ago who used to commit verbal gaff after verbal gaff. He was constantly raked over the coals by the press- this was long before the advent of cable news and the 24x7 news cycle - and he was finally reduced to pleading that the press should print what he meant and not what he said.
I think everyone knows what Trump meant, but what he said came out different and instead of clarifying he kept doubling down until it's reached the point that all he can do is what he's done - say he isn't going to talk about it anymore. Of course then he continues to talk about it.
What might help is if Trump gives some specifics on the rulings that he feels were wrong or unfair and then has recognized legal experts talk about them and explain why Trump is right. That's evidence that it was never about ethnicity.
Trouble with our elite elected, they shoot their mouths off
before they know all the facts. #1 the judge is an anchor baby, and yes, he is an American. #2, he’s a member of law associations that want to destroy Donald Trumps businesses.
He's a traitor to the cause.
It is possible that he realized he wasn't going to be selected as VP and was vulnerable to overtures coming from the #nevertrump crowd.
Whatever happened is now irrelevant. Newt is dead meat.
“Not only does Trump have to run against the DemocRATS, he has to run against the Republican establishment as well.”
A Trump victory will result in changes to the pecking order among the Republican establishment. It’s easy to see why they take shots at him.
“But there is the appearance of IMpartiality based on.....”?! Proof reading is your friend.
And you’re belittling Trump for not being precise?! I agree that he should have emphacized Curiel’s affiliations and activities instead of his ethnicity, but when we criticize Trump, let US be a bit more precise ourselves.
A VP choice should be someone who fills in the weaknesses of the candidate with their strengths. Trump is ALWAYS going to be someone who tells it likes it is, the warrior against political correctness. Newt's too self-assured to not put his personal views above working in a backup position.
Who speaks more carefully and has experiences, wisdom, and accomplishments in DC and beyond? I can't think of anyone except Jeff Sessions.
Paul Ryan has an election coming up. He will probably lose it. That taped interview that will show Sunday will not help him.
I’ve been thinking it through. This would have been a minor blip, and Trump would’ve clarified and expanded on his concerns about the judge, then moved on.
It blew up and lasted the whole week, giving hillary an opening, because of Gingrich’s remarks.
Is Gingrich that dumb, speaking against Trump before Trump had the opportunity to clarify his remarks? Or is Gingrich actually a Republican party lapdog who has been working from inside the campaign? I wonder. Gingrich isn’t stupid.
Looks to me like Gingrich let the fawning VP talk get to his head. He’s been way over the line lately in his attacks on Trump.
All the spineless ninnies got their panties in a wad, and it made them all cry. No wonder the GOP establishment is about the most hated creature on earth.
They simply won’t defend us. We’ve been assaulted by the IRS. Where was the GOP? We’ve been assaulted at our rallies. Where was the GOP? Apparently this is Paul Ryan means when he says: “That is not who we are”. They are not conservatives.
The modern corportist GOP is rotten to the core. It’s needs to die.
That's exactly what he is. He screwed the pooch in the government shutdown melee under Clinton. He's a smart guy, but he says the right thing on a less reliable basis than Trump does; and I would not trust Gingrich to do the right thing, on anything.
