(CNN)One year ago the question hovering over Park City, Utah, was which presidential candidate could capture the hearts of Mitt Romney's friends.
Less than a week later, Donald Trump said he was running for president and made them his enemy. And he beat them.
Now, with Trump as the GOP nominee, those same Republican fundraisers, business titans and longtime friends of Romney are back to huddle far from Trump Tower. Attendees caution that Romney's annual summit -- The Experts and Enthusiasts, or E2, retreat -- is not an exclusive conclave for the #NeverTrump movement. Yet it is the closest thing to a safe space for conservatives who agree that Trump is not a Republican in the mold of their 2012 Republican nominee, who remains revered by associates.
Romney, who has criticized Trump at every turn, will brief his allies in a highly-anticipated, even if brief, set of remarks Thursday evening.
Two Republicans who have been the most uneasy with Trump's ascension: House Speaker Paul Ryan, who just endorsed Trump last week, and Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse, who has refused to, will speak, their offices confirmed.

Exactly right, and don't put it past the Romney/Bush cabal to try some shenanigans at the GOP convention, such as changes to nomination bylaws in a last-ditch effort to push through a candidate of their choosing.
Mitt probably has a vault with photos, buried in a mountain, somewhere
I am not sure Trump is fully on board but he recognized that a majority of the GOP base has figured out the GOPe does not represent them.
The GOPe exists so it appears we have a choice and to make sure there isn’t real choice to the global establishment.
It’s like that old, “Planet of the Apes”, movie when Mitt took off his mask and revealed his innermost self.
Mitt turned out a big joke!

If I am reading the tea leaves right behind the scenes the GOPe, lead by Ryan, is trying to force Trump to apologize to “The Judge”. I expect that type of kabuki nonsense we can expect at the convention.
The GOPe know they cant’t pull the nom from Trump without destroying the party but will do their best to wound him enough he loses to Hillary. That’s the current game plan, IMO.
Yes, they continue to get their perks with out taking any responsibility.
They are like an employee who could move up in a business but declines because of laziness and not wanting more responsibilities.
In the case of GOP politicians, they can still add to their million$ (and retire with a large income from taxpayers) until the country goes completely belly up.
Then some of them will go Wha hoppen? and jump out of windows.
Imagine a Republican party full of RINO’s.
Next, imagine having to vote them all out of office and the amount of time it would take.
Now, imagine them deciding to leave the party on their own accord.
Thank you Donald Trump.
Because these people are not technically Republicans but Globalist Uniparty members. I contend most of these people are Democrats who posed as Republicans and infiltrated the GOP at every level wanting to destroy it from within. These Trump guy is ruining it for them!
Conservatives neither want nor need a “safe space”. From Ronald Reagan on we are used to being lied about and falsely attacked. We don't run and hide to a “safe space”.
None of these people are conservatives. They are liars, opportunists and America hating globalists.
Romney hated Reagan and was not a Republican during Reagan's term. Romney was subservient to Obama and ran such an incompetent race it is hard to believe he did not deliberately lose.
Now Romney and the other slime balls are working to get Clinton elected.
Lets get a full list of the names of the attendees.
Two things: These losers are NOT conservatives, and Romney has no influences on we the people. Most of us had to hold our noses to vote for the weenie - NEVER again!
