Surveillance video captured a dramatic scene inside a Florida convenience store where a man allegedly attempted to kidnap a 13-year-old girl, according to police.
Suspect Craig Bonello entered the store Tuesday and grabbed the teen, who was shopping with her mother, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said.
Bonello, 30, can be seen on a surveillance video pulling the girl by her arms and dragging her to the front door, police said of the midday incident, which happened about 80 miles west of Orlando.
Sheriff Jeff Dawsy said Bonello was "intentionally shopping around the girl and seen stretching on the video."
"He searched out his victim. He went after that child," Dawsy said today at a press conference.
But the teen's mother jumped into action, grabbing her daughter's arm while fighting off Bonello.
"He got his butt kicked by the mom. That was the great thing about that video," Dawsy said.
Bonello eventually let go and ran out the front door just as off-duty Citrus County Sheriff's Deputy Jonathan Behnen was getting out of his patrol car to enter the store.

Dollar General is about as low rent as it gets.
True. I hear Wal Mart has a higher class of kidnappers. :-)
Go ahead, snob. Run down a place to shop that keeps costs low.
The Dollar General in my little town is the only place within 15 miles where you can get anything other than convenience store items. At MY Dollar General, the perp in this story would have been held a gunpoint by the patrons of the store.
You can kiss my low-rent azz.....
Now that is how you defend and protect your children.
Why? Isn't there an available dumpster out behind the store?
Awesome video. That Mom has my respect!
Now that is brazen.
Totally unbelievable. I hope this man never gets out of prison. He should actually get a death sentence. Someone as brazen as this is a real menace to society, and rehabilitation is not a reality.
The sad thing is I saw someone moving out of their way, and it looked like a man. I would have been on this guy like white on rice, using everything I have, teeth etc., to make this guy feel some real pain.
What any sensible parent would do, right before they ripped that monster’s head off. But here’s what I don’t understand: did anyone on this board watch the video and see some other guy just walk across the screen, past the lunatic trying to steal a 13 year old girl, with her momma hanging on for dear life?? Who the hell was that guy, and why didn’t he do anything?????
Very proud of the mom in this attack, but she should have attacked the kidnapper’s head once he was within reach. Use something heavy or just use fingernails in his eyes.
End of kidnapping attempt.
You're SO superior to those of us who shop there, aren't you?
We can’t all shop at whole foods.
That passerby may not have turned his head and seen the commotion coming towards him. He seemed to be walking purposefully and might have only heard something but if it wasn’t “help help!” Maybe he thought kids were arguing? Who knows.
Wow that mom was strong. I’d better learn some self defense, I’m not sure I could hang on so well.
Shocker. The perp is a registered sex offender. Thank goodness that kid’s mother has a take-no-prisoners attitude.
We have one right up the street and patronize it often. The employees are always pleasant and helpful.
The other patrons can be a bit sketchy, however.
L
Actually I shop there too. LOL. No offense meant.
It looked like he was going behind the check-out counter. Could it have been the clerk going for the phone to call the cops?
I shop at Dollar General.
