Hillary Clinton is on the cusp of clinching the Democratic presidential nomination, and could move closer as Puerto Rico's primary results are announced Sunday night.
The former secretary of state is competing with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders to win a majority of Puerto Rico's 60 delegates.
Clinton began the day 60 delegates shy of the 2,383 she needs to win the Democratic nomination -- with 1,776 pledged delegates and another 547 superdelegates.
Sanders, meanwhile, started Sunday with 1,547 delegates total: 1,501 pledged delegates and another 46 superdelegates.
Clinton is closing in on a historic nomination as the first female presidential nominee with one more round of states -- California, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Dakota and Montana -- set to vote Tuesday.
Her nomination would become official during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
She'll become the first-ever female nominee of a major political party.
Clinton's nomination wouldn't be official, though, until the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
Her total delegate haul includes superdelegates, party officials who are unbound and can switch their support at any time.
Those superdelegates have overwhelmingly supported Clinton over Sanders, but could technically change their position.
Sanders has repeatedly said he'll lobby them to do just that.

She may limp into the convention. She may well lose California on Tuesday. What a muted celebration she and her lackeys will have, if she claims to have clinched it, while voters in a major state are rejecting her.
NBC says she needs 54 out of 60 she could do it tonight...After the Virgin Islands results and new superdel commitments, HRC is now just 54 dels short of 2383, per NBC count https://twitter.com/mmurraypolitics/status/739556471210446848
I don’t think Hillary will win Puerto Rico in a landslide. I think Bernie will do well.
LMAO. This article is outright lie.
The super delegates only vote at the convention in late July. Until then they are not bound to vote for anyone.
Hillary is not in the cusp of winning anything.
The MSM will make it seem like she's the first American to land on the moon.
Yes.
A Bernie nut posted a video of the DNC Communication Director telling CNN that:https://twitter.com/ShaunKing (fourth post down).
But the media’s ‘job’ is to help Hillary. And the sooner they announce her the winner the better for her.

CNN’s John King reporting that Clinton has ~40 superdelegates ready to pledge but are being urged to wait until Tuesday night. https://twitter.com/benchmarkpol/status/739607716713271297
Good, if they are stupid enough to nominate her, Trump will be next POTUS. Let the unmasking of the Clinton criminal cabal begin! I don’t believe it though. Democraps are crazy but they ain’t stupid. I cannot believe they would be stupid enough to nominate this witch. Somethings going to happen....SOON.
“The MSM will make it seem like she’s the first American to land on the moon.”
You got that right.
The truth is that the regular delegates haven’t voted yet either, but if SHRILLARY! wins less delegates in actual Primaries and caucuses than Sanders, if Sanders BEATS her in elected delegates, there will be all kinds of problems for the DEMONCRATS.
Second woman, after Trump is done...
I dont see the Berniebots giving up the ghost so soon, Hilly will have to nominate Fauxahontas to pacify them..
When it was Trump they didn’t count unpledged delegates to his number until everyone else dropped out. Just another way the MSM tries to drive the news rather than reporting it. Truth is, just like the Repubs thought would happen is what WILL happen for he Democrats. No one reached a majority
Yea, that’s not how it works. The party system is a disaster. Truth is no one got the number and the super delegates can give it to anyone (just like the crooked Republican system)
No, she’s 607 delegates shy. Superdelegates are NOT committed until they actually vote - they can change their vote right up until that time. So those delegates can change to Bernie at any time.
Unless she has committed delegates - she hasn’t sealed the deal. It’s still up in the air until the election. If an indictment looks likely, or there’s another bimbo eruption then the superdelegates may jump to the Bern.
Green papers says pop vote Clinton 64% Sanders 35% others 1% (rounding) . Delegates. Clinton 38 Sanders 22.
The surprising thing here is, viewing the elected (aka pledged) delegates only, the Witch and Crazy Bernie are quite close. After CA he could end up with a majority of the elected delegates, leaving her with only the super delegates to put her across the line. Trump, OTOH, has won by winning a majority of elected delegates, a huge difference.
