Is it just me? That's crazy. Does that mean that in order to be assured security, it would be necessary to hire private security forces?

There could be a silver lining. That would be if Black Lives Matter thugs and La Raza thugs go at it and police just stand there and enjoy the fireworks.

No, it just means that the police have no legal duty to come to your aid. They might, and they might not. Same as for private security, but you can sue them for breach of contract or something.

It isn't unusual for the cops to stand down. See LA riots, and the current "slowdown" in Baltimore.

#BLM and La Raza thugs have an informal immunity, the politicians don't want to answer for law enforcement action against those particular groups of thugs and shake-down artists. See too, SEIU thugs.
