But athletic and well worth watching.

Besides, other than racing,say, what sport does not require some judgment calls on the part of an official sometimes?

Particularly, football and basketball, and maybe I’m wrong about racing.

I agree with TB in that I think the distinction is where the outcome is based completely om judgement (gymnastics, diving, etc.) as opposed to scores or a specific outcome.

Boxing and other combat contests are a little strange in that it is possible to just win (KO) but if that doesn’t happen then it falls to judging. But if it is POSSIBLE to get a clear winner absent a judged outcome I say it is a sport.

Judges of clear outcome contests are really referees, checking on rules compliance.
