HE was the greatest I listened to him brag and recite poetry over the radio of my dads Ford Fairlane 500.Here's that poem, from an old aircheck on Howard Cosell's radio show on WABC in NYC.

I remember going to a Coyotes games in Phoenix, must have been 4 or 5 years ago, and they announced he was in the crowd. He stood and waved and there was a huge cheer. Same thing happened a year or so later, also.

By the time Larry Holmes beat Ali all over the ring it was some years after Cassius should have retired.
I remember that fight, Ali had long since gained his bragging rights, he showed he could bring it, he had nothing to prove by then. No doubt that fight was a big factor in his developing Parkinson's. For all his controversial statements and an ego that would rival Trump's he said what he meant and meant what he said, gotta respect that. RIP

Frazier resigned before the last round in Manila, beaten to a pulp. Frazier's trainer Eddie Futch threw in the towel after the 14th, ignoring Joe's protests. Both fighters showed incredible heart and skill. Best heavyweight fight I've ever seen, and that includes their first epic encounter.
Both Ali and Frazier were badly beaten up in Manila. Ali's words after the fight: "Man, this is the closest I've ever been to dying."

Howard Cosell built his career on pimping for Cassius Clay.

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either satire or opinion. Or both.)

“I came to believe the entire draft dodging charge was bogus.
He was 25 in 1967 and they werent drafting 25 year olds.
This was a complete political hack job.”
I believe you may be mistaken.
At the time I believe they drafted up until 26, or older in some conditions.
I got my notice in 1968, so I am one of those old enough to know.

Watching that bout brought a tear to my eye. Ali got pummeled by a stiff. I felt every punch. Was that his last?

Nobody knows what happened in that last millisecond before his soul departed.
Are you certain that he didn’t *finally say yes to Jesus Christ?

He's probably the greatest boxer of all time outside of Sugar Ray Robinson. And truly became an icon in and out of sports.

You have no idea what occurred in the last split second of his life. Did he say yes to Jesus Christ?
You don’t know.

All he had to do is ask in that last moment. And that’s something none of will know on this side of the veil.

You dont know.
Right you are. I only know he was dreadfully wrong for most of his life. So there's that.

Is it un-PC to say good riddance? If you want to be a complete jerk, I guess not. And being "un-PC" has nothing to do with it.
Jesus Christ: You can't impeach Him and He ain't gonna resign.

A cultural icon more than a sports great.
His tomato-red Continental was also iconic.
For we baby-boomers, it's JFK assassination, Beatles invasion, Cassius Clay.
