Less than a year after the Supreme Court decided that marriage no longer needs partners of the opposite sex, the other two branches of the federal government are moving rapidly to eliminate all rational distinctions based on sex. Taken together, these new actions reflect the unscientific (but oh-so-politically correct) dogma that there are no fundamental, biological differences between male and female.
From the executive branch, controlled by President Obama and the Democrats, came a joint letter from the Departments of Justice and Education addressed to the nation's public schools and colleges that receive federal financial assistance. The letter instructed schools that henceforth they must recognize students' "internal sense of gender" as superseding "the sex they were assigned at birth."
The federal letter was prompted by the controversy over North Carolina's new law prohibiting men from entering women's restrooms, but it's not limited to restrooms with private stalls. It also requires schools to allow students to enter the group shower and locker room that accords with the student's "internal sense of gender" and even to be addressed with the pronoun they prefer.
Not to be outdone, the Republican-controlled Congress had its own bout of gender dysphoria, the trendy new ailment defined as stress caused by inability to identify with your biological sex. The Armed Services Committees of both Houses have approved legislation that would require young women to register for Selective Service, which puts them on a list to be called up for military combat.
The House committee acted first, voting 32-30 to include young women in the registration for a military draft. Two weeks later the Senate committee included a similar provision by order of its chairman, John McCain, and a motion to delete that provision was defeated by a vote of 19-7.
Senator McCain, who once joked that the liberal media is "my base," may feel that catering to the feminists will earn him enough free media to fend off a primary challenge from the conservative state senator, Dr. Kelli Ward. The draft-our-daughters provision was also supported by Republican feminists on Armed Services such as Sen. Kelly Ayotte (NH), Sen. Joni Ernst (IA), and Rep. Martha McSally (AZ).
Mandatory registration of women for military service was rejected by a Democrat-controlled Congress in 1980 after it was proposed by President Jimmy Carter. The exemption of women was upheld as constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court in a decision written by the late Chief Justice Rehnquist during the term when his law clerk was the future Chief Justice, John Roberts.
Any woman can seek to enlist in our all-volunteer military, but men are six times more likely than women to volunteer and serve. The military meets its self-imposed quota of 15 percent women by providing child care, "reproductive care" and other benefits that young male soldiers don't need or want.
It makes no sense to force all young women to register for a future draft when only a small percentage of them would ever enlist. Our national defense is not enhanced by maintaining a list of millions of women who have no intention of becoming soldiers and would never be fit for combat.
The purpose of our military is to field the finest troops possible to defend our Nation and win wars. The goal of feminists, however, is to impose a mindless equality, regardless of how many people it hurts.
Women lack the upper-body strength that men have. Soldiers need to carry into the battlefield gear weighing 60 to 120 pounds, which is impossible for most women.
Soldiers must also move quickly while carrying these heavy loads, which creates stress for their knees and other joints. Medical studies show that women athletes have four to six times the risk of men in suffering knee injuries.
An injury on the battlefield endangers not only a soldier who is hurt, but also others around her. Studies show that men tend to spend too much time helping an injured female soldier, rather than advancing the military objectives of the battle.
Last year the Marine Corps did a study that compared the effectiveness of all-male troops to that of co-ed troops. In results that should surprise no one, the all-male units had much lower injury rates and higher overall performance than mixed-gender units.
Our national security is not served by this misguided attempt to force young women to register for a military draft. Tell your Representative and Senators to remove this offensive provision when the national defense bill comes to the floor.
I have got to the point I can’t even discuss it anymore.
There are vocal, active people who want women in combat. Some of them are delusional liberals who see the pap from Hollywood and believe a woman in top shape can beat the tar out of five males in top shape.
There are conservatives who are angry about it, and say: “Give them what they want, and see how they like it.”
There are a lot of military people who know the truth, but are fully aware that speaking the truth is a spike through your career. The ones who do speak the truth simply leave because they have enough honor not to live with the lie.
My opposition is for the benefit of future battles our country will need to win, and the certainty of both loss of our military personnel and the battles they are in.
And you are right about Phyllis Schlafly. (See my Freep page)
She has been saying this for years. And she used simple logic and truth to ask the questions liberals didn’t want asked, to nearly singlehandedly defeat the ERA back in the Seventies.
She is a hero to me. But truth and logic count for nothing anymore.
From the article: Senator McCain, who once joked that the liberal media is “my base,”...

I don’t believe that was ever a joke. His actions all along have been very consistent with the major media being his one and only constituent.
I have whipped every woman I ever fought. — Boodah Slim
War is a nasty enough business for men. Why do women want to get into it? Brainwashed, I guess.
The train is huge. It weighs hundreds of tons.
It’s going 60 miles per hour. It has a lot of momentum.
You’ve tried to call them and tell them the overpass is out. They’re heading into a horrible tragedy. They say they don’t care. It’s their train and they are running it.
Sometimes, all you can do is keep the people back that are near you, and just watch that train wreck.
I am all for women being required to register for the draft. Let’s let the chickens come home to roost. Maybe the ladies will see the light and stop this insanity of women in combat.
One thing I’ve always wondered, is in a very bad situation if women are less likely to surrender than men, if they believe that they are going to be raped after they surrender?
In my minds eye when the bullets run out and the bayonets are placed I can see 5 foot 6 inch, 125 pound Suzie taking on six foot 4 inch 235 pound Ivan in hand to hand combat. There is a good chance that God has abandoned America.
Don’t just register the vocal activists and liberal idiots; draft them, train them and shove their stupid asses into Afghanistan.
That includes congress critters and senators.
NO AGE DISCRIMINATION.
Most women don’t like the idea of being in the infantry in a combat situation one bit. They know their limitations. It’s insanity to put them in harm’s way when you don’t have to. If it was to enhance mission effectiveness and make it better you could possibly see the rationale. But it only degrades the mission, so it’s insanity. But Obama and all liberals are insane to start with it. They think of themselves as the great protector of women and always looking out for women and what’s best for them. Wanting them to die alongside a man just so they can say they’re all for “equality” means they hate women women are much as they hate men.
They don't.
The biggest problem that I see would be because of the instinctual habits of males to protect females...It is born into man and he could have his concentration on battle weakened by his concern over female troop’s safety...
I should have re-worded that question as “why are there any women who want to get into it”.
They say the police forces with the highest % of women also have the highest frequency of using force to get compliance. That’s either the women themselves or the male cops who have to protect/enforce when the women cop isn’t obeyed.
But in a volunteer life or death combat situation, I think maybe the men would just leave the women who choose to put the unit in further danger by being there to fend for themselves. Isn’t a woman who thinks they can do the job of a combat operator delusional and maybe evil for putting her fellow soldiers in more risk with her participation? Or would they be treated like a mascot or something?

They want to get into it, because they view the military as a jobs opportunity program, not a “Kill the enemy and destroy as much of his equipment and infrastructure as possible” program.
These are mostly (but not all) liberal idiots who don’t understand the military is not the civilian world, and the same rules and standards do not apply.
As you said, it is a nasty, nasty, cutthroat, brutal, human against human desecration of one or the other, and the one less desecrated/destroyed/killed/maimed is the one on average that is going to win a conflict.
These dumb asses think that you can have office rules about conduct, and people can push buttons and the enemy will evaporate.
They have no knowledge of history. They don’t understand the naval battles in the Solomons, Edson’s Ridge, Iwo Jima, Battle of The Bulge, Chosin, Khe Sanh, Hill 937, Fallujah, and countless others, and the role that physical strength played in those victories, winning out many times in small scale individual/unit actions, that translated in summary to an overall victory.
There are a lot of those kingdoms that could have been lost for the want of a nail for a shoe.
I don’t know....Like everything else, you don’t really know how a person would react until you are in that situation...
I’m thankful I never had to face that decision when in Vietnam...
