Why So Many Men Are Living With Their Parents
New York Post ^ | May 30, 2016 | Karol Markowicz

When we think of a child passing into adulthood, we usually picture independent living — perhaps with roommates, alone or eventually with a partner or spouse. Today that picture might need some adjustment.

A Pew Research poll released last week found that American men age 18 to 34 are more likely to be living with their parents than in any other living situation.

What’s going on? What’s happening to men? And, just as important: Why?

This chart from the cited study indicates that things are returning to the way they were prior to World War II. The 60 year dip in young adults living with parents appears to be the actual anomaly.

I’ve always opposed
Government- mandated “service” as too risky when we have dictator style administration especially. But I do agree that a few months training would help many kids grow up. I wonder if maybe this could be done ( approximated) by the local high school itself somehow, to keep govt mostly out of it? Or maybe it couldn’t. Might just be too soft and wishy washy — a real boot camp style experience with a real training Sargent is needed — local school wouldn’t know how to provide that. Maybe it has to be the govt military then. It’s an intriguing idea

You are on the right track, but have left out few items of significance. I will add a few things in no particular order.

Career track employment is hard to find. This increases the uncertainty factor for young males in making a commitment.

The available females in many cases already have a kid or two, by other guys. This increases the uncertainty factor

The family courts are openly hostile to men. This increases the uncertainty factor.

When planning for the future one needs a level of certainty of the potential outcome within what one can control. Super high risk, with high potential for negative outcome that can last for decades leads most to not place a bet.

We realize that obama’s economic damage has been severe, especially in the job market Still -— Even with those figures, a roommate will make the budget balance nicely. (I did it this way, anyway. Worked just fine. Far Better than squatting at parents’ place for years and years _ at least we grew up and learned how to take responsibility for ourselves ). Best,

I don’t think the Catholic bishops in America have ever taken note of the government’s war on the family. Instead, they have lobbied for every measure by which the government has undermined it—exorbitant taxes, welfare, etc., etc., etc.

While publicly extolling it. A bit of a "schizophrenic" position.

It’s the mother’s fault, as usual.

The system does NOT like it’s own guys.

But the system is mainly composed of its own guys. Go figure. Guy-guilt, anyone?

“when that goal and role is artificially blocked by the purposes of leftist ideology, young men will struggle.”

Exactly.

White men are being funneled to military and/or the sewage plant, women and minorities for the Ivy league.

“He inherited nothing. Nothing you could put a dollar value on. The house was sold, debts paid, net zero. Contents of house split among eight sibs — because he had no place to put anything. Except in his big heart. “

This is a sadly common story, where the lifetime caregiver gets completely screwed one way or the other. Interesting it was a son; I think 99 times out of a 100 it’s usually a kindhearted daughter that gets hosed.

I suspect that the stigma of premarital sex in the old days motivated a lot of young men to go out and get married.

Houston has some for less than that, but you would probably have to be heavily armed to live in them.

I agree, but that isn’t easy.

And it doesn’t always work.

Why hasn’t he seen his kid in years? The ex can’t legally deny him visitation (unless the court agreed).

Because women today just aren't worth it. That's why.

Yeah, the women that men used to revere and put on a pedestal as our wives, sisters and mothers have been displaced by bitches and baby mommas. The people who used to say "women are only good for one thing - sex" have things just the way they want it. All the "milk" for free, with no need to "buy the cow". It's a 20-something's dream.

Who wants to start a family with a woman with so many tattoos you can't see their skin? Boink 'em, maybe, but grow old with them? Fuggedaboutit...

His ex threatened to kill me. As long as she gets her child support she leaves us alone.

The child will come looking one day and she won’t be able to stop it.

We wait.

Isn’t “rearing” the preferred term? We raise hogs and rear children.

“I’m afraid the under-20s now just want to be taken care of, and it’s going to come back on them big-time.

Especially when the parents die and the kids find there is nothing left and the house is a goner too.

My son just moved back in because of the over 7K in medical and dental bills he is paying off after an unexpected surgery and some needed tooth work. His boss’s obamacare coverage just hasn’t helped. So he is living with me and giving me twenty four hours a month in billable time for free and is working off all my projects. He will be paid off on one bill in 5 more months and on the other bill in 12 months.

He is a solid citizen and knows how to negotiate.
