Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have signed up to a new European Union (EU) Code of Conduct, pledging to help censor and criminalise perceived illegal online hate speech and promot[e] independent counter-narratives that the EU favors.
The Code, which has been branded Orwellian by Members of the European Parliament, is reproduced in full below by Breitbart London for the benefit of our readers.
Facebook, Microsoft [Microsoft-hosted consumer services, as relevant], Twitter and YouTube (hereinafter the IT Companies) also involved in the EU Internet Forum share, together with other platforms and social media companies, a collective responsibility and pride in promoting and facilitating freedom of expression throughout the online world;
The IT Companies also share the European Commissions and EU Member States commitment to tackle illegal hate speech online. Illegal hate speech, as defined by the Framework Decision 2008/913/JHA of 28 November 2008 on combating certain forms and expressions of racism and xenophobia by means of criminal law and national laws transposing it, means all conduct publicly inciting to violence or hatred directed against a group of persons or a member of such a group defined by reference to race, colour, religion, descent or national or ethnic origin. The IT Companies and the European Commission also stress the need to defend the right to freedom of expression, which, as the European Court of Human Rights has stated, is applicable not only to information or ideas that are favourably received or regarded as inoffensive or as a matter of indifference, but also to those that offend, shock or disturb the State or any sector of the population. Looks like East Germany has come back as the multiculturalism-by-force EU.
How can anyone seriously say they want to balance it with free speech while in the same breadth declare speech illegal? Speech is speech. What they mean is “free speech as defined by official regulators of content”.
They want to protect their leftist message from competition. The easiest way they gain support to curtail speech is to call it as “hate speech”, “trolling”, “racism”, “bigotry”, and other smears. If that doesn’t work, they form partnerships like we see today - to enforce government policy while bypassing the public.
Let’s take in the true refugees fleeing loss of free speech
Hmmm the proper response is FUEU
Many years ago, former ACLU director Norm Seigal, said that in reality the 1st Amendment doesn’t protect free speech, it’s there to protect UNPOPULAR speech. One of those rare sensible positions from the ADL, former director Abe Foxman said that the worst thing to do is to censor hate speech. the best way to deal with it is to CHALLENGE it with MORE speech, (though that approach may be too intense for those hypersensitive millenial special snowflakes to handle.) If nothing else allowing the haters to spew their bile let’s the rest of us know who the morons really are.
And "religious" speech? That will be banned -- apart from muzzies. So, the jihadist videos will continue. Thanks Nachum.
Now telling the truth is punishable by law.
