The Obama Administration's Disrespect For The Rule Of Law Hits A New Low

The lawlessness of the Obama administration has been astounding.

Entire books have been written about President Obama’s notion that he should be and is free to do whatever he wants (such as Lawless by Professor David Bernstein, which I wrote about here). No doubt more will be.

One remarkably brazen instance I recently learned about is his administration’s funneling of money from lawsuit settlements into the pockets of left-wing activist groups. It makes you wonder if there is anything this administration won’t try to get away with.

Following the collapse of the housing bubble, the federal government initiated several grandstanding, politically motivated lawsuits against big banks for their allegedly fraudulent conduct with regard to secondary market mortgage-backed securities. Rather than fight the feds and their almost bottomless well of taxpayer dollars, several of the defendants decided to cut their losses and settle.

That enabled federal prosecutors to claim victory and wave some prominent scalps. Siphoning off billions of bank capital is bad enough, but the rule of law problem emerges in two of the settlement agreements, under which the banks (Citigroup and Bank of America) were able to reduce their penalties by making “donations” to favored left-wing activist groups.

Laws are only meant to punish peasants and Republicans.

To paraphrase the guy whose statue bust Obama sent back to Great Britain, the best way to describe the Obama years is , “Never before in the course of human endeavors have so few stolen so much from so many”

Hopefully the Trump administration will file qui tam actions to recover the money from these organizations and throw the leaders in prison.

A similar scam is going on with Obama’s administration in the enforcement of the environmental laws. Leftist environmental organization in cahoots with Obama et al. files collusive law suit against EPA, Fish & Wildlife, et al., claiming that the environmental laws require the feds to do X,Y and Z even though nowhere in the law. Justice Department and agency roll over and don’t defend the law, or enter into “settlement” with the environmental group that results in collusive court saying government “must” do X,Y and Z even though nowhere in the law. Government also is required to pay leftist environmental group its fees, which funds future collusive litigation to further fraudulently expand the law. Government then uses “expanded” law to go after the private sector.

By the way, this is how we got “expanded protections” for “transgenders.” The left sued the Obama administration in a collusive lawsuit claiming that the Ts were included in the civil rights laws, even though though laws and their legislative history are silent on that, and Congress has for years refused to add LGBTQI to the statutes.

Voila, one federal judge agrees, and then it becomes “the law.”

For you, a haiku:

You say “A new high”,
Others might say “a new low”
Either way: treason

And yet, knowing what he is, ‘we’ voted him into a second term. The voters deserve to get what they want, and they deserve to get it good and hard. -— HLM

"Try, he says. Aren't we fortunate we have GOP majorities in the House and Senate. Imagine how bad things would be if we didn't have that to stop Obama!"

...he said with more than a little sarcasm.

Funny the focus is on retrieving the money,NOT the actual utter corruption of the so called Justice department, suing the banks? It’s just a shake down group,it really is more along the lines of The Just Us department
