Actually, Bill did NOT beat “perjury”. He was censured by the ABA and lost his license to practice law in the US.
What he did “beat” was a ^Bill of Impeachment^ in the Senate, drawn against the charge of “suborning perjury”:
AKA, pressuring others to lie to congress regarding his activities as presented by Starr.
His legal team was deftly able to turn the willing [D] Senate’s attention to, “It’s just sex.” making the charge a direct attack on BJ as a person and not as a public servant.
The point here is that the entire Washington DC political-class are very accepting of recreational sex and an impeachment would have slowed down their access to nooky, regardless of which team they batted for.
