WASHINGTON (AP) Donald Trump reached the number of delegates needed to clinch the Republican nomination for president Thursday, completing an unlikely rise that has upended the political landscape and set the stage for a bitter fall campaign.
Trump was put over the top in the Associated Press delegate count by a small number of the party's unbound delegates who told the AP they would support him at the national convention in July. Among them is Oklahoma GOP chairwoman Pam Pollard.
"I think he has touched a part of our electorate that doesn't like where our country is," Pollard said. "I have no problem supporting Mr. Trump."
It takes 1,237 delegates to win the Republican nomination. Trump has reached 1,238. With 303 delegates at stake in five state primaries on June 7, Trump will easily pad his total, avoiding a contested convention in Cleveland.
Trump, a political neophyte who for years delivered caustic commentary on the state of the nation from the sidelines but had never run for office, fought off 16 other Republican contenders in an often ugly primary race.

WOOHOO!!! GO.TRUMP.GO!!! ALL THE WAY TO THE OVAL OFFICE!!!
We, as American Voters, have run this election, knowing who we wanted to lead our Great Nation and by golly we have DONE IT!!!
Now on to the Convention, and thru the General, and into the White House with Trump, that has been our goal since he announced and by golly WE ARE GOING TO DO IT!!!
Your voting for Barky again??? Good Luck....
Amen!
Cruz will remain ‘da turd’ in the punch bowl.
And there are still a couple of primaries left, so he should be able to bump up the margin enough that there should be no concerns about last-minute defections that could leave him short.
Cruz has chosen his cabinet. Now he and Fiorina are choosing the decorations for the White House and VP mansion.
After California, they’ll go ahead and order it all.
(don’t want to appear too presumptive)
Can’t be.
We have been lectured for months that it would be impossible for Trump to reach the magic number.
And they haven’t even reached California, Montana, New Mexico, New Jersey or South Dakota yet.
Paging Karl Rove, paging Karl Rove.....
Cruz to speak soon!
Cruz will announce his Presidential library location
I'm going to try to remember to include those words in all my subsequent posts.
Trump in the White House. Hillary in the Big House!

Paging the Never Trump Freepers who have been telling us since last fall that Trump would never have enough delegates. Do you want ketchup or barbeque sauce on your crow.
Trump clinched the delegates quicker than even Romney. Romney didn’t reach the magic number until June 6 and the California Primary.
Trump is leading all previous non incumbent Republican nominees of the past. He clinched quicker. He has a record number of votes. He has created a much expanded party in terms of size. He even had the largest amount of high powered lifetime politicians pitted against him in the primaries.
Too bad he is such a loser. /s/ @ Least that is what the #NEVERTRUMP Ninnies say.
This is the end of the beginning
