Donald Trump returned to the campaign trail with a force Tuesday, veering away from his recent calls for party unity to attack New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, a rising star Republican and frequent critic of his campaign, as a poor leader who hasnt done enough to stem economic problems in her state.
Youve got to get your governor to do a better job. Shes not doing her job, Trump said at a convention center here, at one point joking that maybe he should run for New Mexico governor.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee also argued Martinez has put her state at risk by accepting Syrian refugees in New Mexico.
Syrian refugees are being relocated in large numbers to New Mexico. If I was governor, that wouldnt be happening, Trump said, renewing his push for a temporary ban on refugees. He urged greater vetting and control of refugees, warning the alternative is we are not going to have a country.

It was pretty disgusting what those people were doing. Throwing stuff at Police and trampling on Police cars. Where is the media in identifying that these were all likely some form of Dem supporters? Trump should be addressing that today.
New Mexico has voted Democrat in 5 of the past presidential elections. Given the demographics, I’m not sure that’s a state is a likely winner for Mr. Trump anyway.
it’s Trump’s way of getting Republicans in line:
“If you’re not with us, I’m against YOU.”
He has truth on his side, however.. Martinez, like her many predecessors, has done nothing to turn the NM welfare state into anything close to self-sufficiency.
I'm sure to some, she is. More than anything, she's really not done much of anything to turn us around after Richardson's follies.
That being said, there's only so much she can do against a Dem-controlled Senate. The Republicans control the House, but barely, and often can't get anything done there, either.
You have to remember she followed Bill Richardson. It wasn’t hard for her to look good, when he left our state in financial ruin.
She did a lot to get our finances better and she did try to get our state to quit handing out driver’s licenses to criminals.
I don’t agree with what she said about Trump, she is either ignorant of his actual stance or more likely pandering to radical Hispanic groups. Not good.
“Unruly” how exactly?
Other than the Communists and Mexicans rioting outside?
She was drunk-calling & trying to humiliate a desk worker & a cop at a hotel she was partying in.....plus she hates Trump. She’s worthless.
Unemployment is down slightly, but, at the same time, many have stopped looking, or the jobs that are out there are low-paying, part-time work versus the full-time or better-paying jobs that were there before the collapse in 07-08. Welfare is up across the board, with nearly more than 1 in 5 residents getting some type of assistance. That's right, 1 in 5. It's around 21%^, just for welfare/SNAP. That's not including housing, obamaphones, et cetera...
Martinez is a pandering, sniveling coward.
Watched the whole thing on live stream, as usual nothing "unruly" about it, other than the anti-Trump agitators which were escorted out one by one. As Mr Trump says, "the safest place to be is at a Trump rally".
VP leaks right up to the time the VP candidate is announced, are for political effect only.
Exactly, the state is infested with good little socialists with the exception of the far northwest (coal & nat gas) and the far southeast(oil & nat gas). He really did not do himself any favors for grabbing the few electoral votes that state has.
That's good news. Martinez initially endorsed Marco Rubio during the primaries. The only reason she was talked about seriously at all as a Trump running mate is the affirmative action checkbox game (female: check, Mexican-American: check).
She was never a good choice, Trump just confirmed it.
Let him pick his own VP.
As long as it is not a cheap labor importer, I’m good.
She refused to appear with him at the rally so he basically said.... screw you.
He is right. The Gov is responsible for order and public safety.
THIS is her problem! She considers her being a “Latina” is more important than being an American.
She dissed Trump and should be severely criticized for the way she did it.
No grace in that Latina, but who would expect it?
She chose which country she was on the side of.
Send her there.
Good, if they’re bad their bad - call her out.
So, she’s off the VP list, then?
