An Australian woman who set out to climb Mount Everest to prove that vegans can do anything died Saturday after developing altitude sickness.
Maria Strydom, 34, had reached the final camp from the summit before she and her husband, Robert Gropel, both began suffering from high-altitude pulmonary edema, which caused fluid to build up in Strydoms brain, the Washington Post reports.

When I first read this I thought it said “Styrofoam’s brain!”
People doing things that can cause them to die for lack of oxygen is crazy.
There are hundreds on bodies all over the place on Everest. You can see photos people have taken of many on any internet search.
I would never do it.
If you haven’t eaten yet, Google Bodies on Everest. Yikes.
It also did because vegans have less strength and energy than omnivores.
In the documentary Fat Head a doctor talks about how he was a vegetarian for,9 years and a strict one for 3 years, when he was a strength coach, and he said it was the time in his life when he felt the weakest. Also got really depressed being off fats and protein.
Usually supplemental oxygen is carried up by climbers too. Wonder if they went through all of it.
Wow, vegans CAN do anything! Even die on Mt.Everest!
Well, they don’t rot, and it’s a pain to bring them down, so yeah they probably do make good landmarks.
Lettuce pray.
“Humans cant continue to exist without certain amino acids that can ONLY be found in animal products.”
All the amino acids can be obtained from plants, but you need to eat the proper variety (nuts, beans, soy, etc). The main advantage of meat when it comes to amino acids is that any kind of meat contains all the essential amino acids in one place.
It's unlikely worms could live at that altitude.
Yep. Just passing one of those bodies on your way up would cause me to turn back around. I don’t understand the thrill of mountain climbing.
Mission accomplished. She proved vegans can die on Everest.
I half hoped it was my sister in law.
What a pathetic waste of Gods gift of life! And before anyone tries pointing out that she died doing what she loved to do, let me point out that she died because she was unable to breathe.
LOL
