A federal judge temporarily stopped the Ohio Department of Health from stripping more than $1 million from Planned Parenthood. A law, passed by mostly GOP legislators and signed by Republican Gov. John Kasich, would divert about $1.4 million in taxpayer money from Planned Parenthood to health departments for programs like HIV testing and sex education.
Axing them what?
Curious how a federal judge can stop this.
Can I ask a stupid question?
How does a federal judge have jurisdiction, over the budget and spending of the state of Ohio? How does the judge have any controlling legal authority, to oversee the spending, based on a law duly passed by the state legislature and signed by their governor???
When it comes to progressives taxing us who are we to think it’s our money; but, when it comes to them giving it to other progressives who are we to think it’s not theirs that they’ve a right to it?
What does "temporarily suspending" mean? For a set period of time? For results from another trial? How long is temporary?
The judiciary now has the power to tax and spend I guess.
The implications are mind-boggling. We pay the taxes and even if we have an elected conservative legislature, it doesn't matter. Because of actions by Kasich and the Judiciary, it is, quite simply, TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION
Just read a story where an aborted baby started crying and the abortionist didn’t know what to do since they didn’t have anyway to care for it - it blows my mind that some woman would wait that long before deciding to end the pregnancy. In that case I’d call it murder.
This is the kind of doofus that W was appointing?
But when Democrat legislation gets even one Republican vote - it is bipartisan...
If the action has federal constitutional implications and a suit is filed in federal court claiming such, then the judge has jurisdiction.
(Mind you, I'm not saying abortion is anywhere in the Constitution of Bill of Rights, but we're stuck with that precedent for now).
It means the state is restrained until these issues are hashed out in court. That will take months, if not a year or so (not counting inevitable appeals).
From what I could gather, some pro-abortion group or lawyers convinced a judge that the purpose of the defunding was to restrict abortions (beyond whatever law Ohio has). And it seems the judge was open to reaching far across the lines of his actual authority.
This seems to be the new norm in the USA, that judges are deciding that people have RIGHTS to things that must be funded by the taxpayers, whether they like it or not. Seems to be an overreach, IMHO.

Some years ago I worked in Mexico City at the Centro de Lenguas, teaching English.
There was a young woman who also wanted to work at this same place, from the Bronx, who DID say "axe" for "ask." Needless to say, SHE wasn't hired on.

Even if we say there is a constitutional right to abortion, how does it follow that there is a constitutional right for taxpayers to fund a specific abortion provider????
At least 007 goes after those who, er, "need" killing, not God's youngest, most vulnerable and most innocent souls.
Amazing the power these men retain--able to appoint Federal judges even after leaving office.
Seriously folks, I've noticed that whenever the action a past Democratic President performed in office is referred to, it was done by "President Jimmy Carter," "President Bill Clinton," etc.
But if an action of any sort was done by a Republican President, such as say, taking the oath of office, signing a bill, threatening the sacred Soviet Union, it was performed by "former President George W. Bush," "former President Ronald Reagan," or "former President Calvin Coolidge."
Kidding on that last one. I think.
