Microsoft's new trick to coax users into upgrading to Windows 10 relies on changing behaviors the pop-up's instilled since December.
This morning, the unthinkable happened: My wife, an avowed PC user who long ago swore to never touch an Apple device, started shopping around for a Mac Mini. And its all thanks to Windows 10. Or rather, the nasty new way that Microsofts tricking Windows 7 and 8 users into automatically updating to Windows 10.
...
The annoying Get Windows 10 pop-up began using deceiving malware-like tactics months ago, but it recently received an overhaul that seems purposefully designed to confuse users who have been wearily slogging through the nagging for half a year now.
That nasty change trick resulted in my wifes beloved Windows 7 PC being sneakily upgraded to Windows 10 this morning. Sure, she has 30 days to roll it back to Windows 7, but she feels so betrayedlike Microsoft forcibly removed her control over her own PC.
...
heres the icky part: The redesigned GWX pop-up now treats exiting the window as consent for the Windows 10 upgrade.
So after more than half a year of teaching people that the only way to say no thanks to Windows 10 is to exit the GWX applicationand refusing to allow users to disable the pop-up in any obvious manner, so they had to press that X over and over again during those six months to the point that most people probably just click it without reading nowMicrosoft just made it so that very behavior accepts the Windows 10 upgrade instead, rather than canceling it.
Thats gross.

I detest Edge. It’s clunky and obnoxiously tells me what I want to do or defaults to search, even after I type in a specific address.
I’m having an issue with Opera as well. I can’t get rid of google on the speed dial page, and it won’t play many videos on youtube and vimeo.
Go to https://www.gtopala.com/
Download the program you want, then go to Licenses. There you will find the Product Key for all the programs on your PC.
Bump....
Rapeware.
Bullshit. It is very much like rape.
The person in MS who made the decision to force Win10 on people should be beaten to a bloody pulp.
bkmk
I haven’t read anything more idiotic in the last year, congratulations! You have a special booby prize waiting for you.
Thanks to rockrr for the ping!!
Thank you for this. Worked perfectly.

You should rename your ping list to The WindowsHatersPingList. Your agenda is transparent.
Microsoft - more of societies liberal elite thugs...
I have been refusing the upgrade for months, then I refused
it again two days ago and it loaded itself.
Seems ok, but I knew where everything was on 8.1.
Now it changed my email to a newer outlook but didn’t
transfer my old email addresses. Where can I find them
and how do I get them moved to 10.?
Help.
While I can still get my old mail on my android I
would prefer to see it on the big screen because of
my vision.
I work in IT at a university, and there are MANY applications that are not supported under Windows 10, for one.
There’s also some hardware that really bad drivers under Windows 10, and you have to run around and reinstall the Windows 7 drivers.
Frankly, I don’t care, either way. Just as long as if it’s not supported by the OS, I don’t have to support it either.
I’m just going to go ahead and upgrade. The dumb Windows 10 app set a data and time of 05/26 at 11pm for it, but I’m going to postpone it to Saturday, back up the computer, and then go ahead and take the ride.
The app claims I’m fully compatible, but I will find out for sure, and the backup is in case the dumb shits are lying — er, in case something turns out to be incompatible.
I still wonder why Microsoft is pushing so hard for this, but it’s free, and I’m planning to find ways to lessen all their sneaky eavesdropping.
Yeah, it’s kinda like a woman who’s so desperate for sex that she’s sneaking into men’s bedrooms and banging them while they’re asleep.
Well, they’re eventually going to stop supporting Windows 7 and 8, so I’m just taking advantage of the opportunity thrust upon me.
Some men are born to Windows 10; others have Windows 10 thrust upon them. :-)
LOL. I have no agenda except to provide pings to the 100+ folks who've asked to get them. I ping the list on the threads I post, and on the threads I'm pinged-to by the folks that start those threads. I select some, not all, of the latter for the list, since some are dupes or not relevant enough to warrant a list ping.
Long before this list started, every single Windows-related thread had just as many negative comments about Windows, Microsoft, Bill Gates, etc. etc. as they do now.
The only difference now is that the ping list provides a way to gather and trade helpful hints and tips, as well as disseminate warnings about features and updates, new malware, bad behavior and bugs, and so forth, among a group of people who have expressed interest in hearing about them. I guarantee you that only a few are Windows Haters -- why in the world would someone who hates Windows want to get pinged about it? Seriously.
More to the point, if you think the present ping list is overloaded with Windows haters (it's not, but you're welcome to your opinion), why don't YOU start a WindowsLoversPingList? You can post threads about how Windows is wonderful, is meeting all your computing needs, never gives you trouble, and so forth. There are certainly plenty of Windows users who feel that way. There's a bunch of them on my ping list now.
If you do so, I hereby promise to ping the present Windows ping list folks to your announcement thread, so that those who are interested in only positive thoughts about Windows can get on your list. You could even make it a caucus thread list so that people who are not among the pro-Windows group are specifically excluded, to hold down on trolling and whatnot.
Anyway, sorry you got offended. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings, truly.
Sorry ‘bout that... let’s add microsoft to the list of scummy companies... It’s too depressing to fight them... easier to hate ‘em.
