The situation in Venezuela has been steadily declining in the past couple of years, but in the past few weeks, it has become so dire and disturbing that scenes coming out of the socialist country are said to mirror the apocalypse.
News reports have surfaced of people having to eat their own pets in order to survive, due to a lack of food in the country.
Currently, 75 percent of Venezuelans live in poverty, a stunning increase from the 25 percent rate just two years ago.

Just as Maggie said, the only problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other peoples’ money.
Peart is very well read.
I guarantee St Petersburg today looks nothing like Leningrad.
I agree. Brilliant. Contains a bookshelf full of knowledge in just nine words.

See, if they would raise their minimum wage to $15/hour, people could afford to buy food instead of having to eat their pets.

“These idiot college kids should learn what socialism *really* is before they get all excited about voting for it.”
Wisdom is generally (although not always) something that grows with age. I never understood why literally 1-2 years after the point in their lives at which as a parent you have to remind them to pick up their things and do their homework, enrollment in college is expected to all of a sudden bring great wisdom.
On the one hand I feel sorry for these people for their suffering. On the other hand, as I understand the history of this situation, the Venezuelan People, looking for “the other guy” to give them some freebies via government, voted these Marxist socialist’s bastards into power.
That quote is from “back in the day”. He was asked about it a few years ago and said something like “That period (Rand) was a long time ago - I’ve grown up.” I still love their music, but I won’t read any of his blogs anymore. For the most part they were a fun read (motorcycle trips) but there would always be a few sentences in there that would just ruin it for me.
Oh, they ran out of the last of the eggs some time last year
Seriously, Venezuela collapsed economically several years ago - what we are seeing now is the final stages of complete societal collapse
Coming soon to the United States
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ...
.............hmmmm............RKBA ????
It looks like they are on the SOL list.
Countries like Venezuela are exactly what ISIS is looking for.
They’ve outlawed self sufficiency.
“I’d take you up on it if it were even money.”
LOL!
“Maduro MIGHT have an escape plan as well. He KNOWS his opponents.”
I happened to be doing contract work for Israeli companies when Qaddhafi went ape-chit crazy in 2011. Qaddhafi thought he had all the bases covered plus an escape plan and ended up sodomized and shot dead on the hood of an SUV. Maduro doesn’t have the money or connections that Qaddhafi had.
Maduro is walking dead.
Venezuela on the threshold of disaster. Because there was so much indifference in the world?
Here’s a tweet from a Venezuelan.
What does this mean?
So, after the fall, the agony at the bottom, and the beginning of a rebuild (with the help of Uncle Sugar), how long before they vote for this crap again?
