Once given the all clear, I take the elevator to the 25th floor, where a longtime Trump employee escorts me to a second elevator that rockets us to the 66th floor, where a Secret Service agent awaits. Its on that floor that finally, behind a hulking gold door, the woman Im here to meet appears, a picture of repose. Melania Trump, 46, is dressed in a black Chanel coat, slim black pants by The Row and Louboutin heels. A 25-carat diamond ring, an anniversary present from her husband, weighs down one hand. Her much-discussed squintlike a fox caught in headlightsis less prominent in person; otherwise she looks just as youd imagine. Camera-ready, not a hair out of place. Fiji and Pellegrino water on the coffee table. Come sit, she purrs.
This woman is a few months, and swing states, away from becoming our next first lady, but very little is known about her. Magazine profiles inevitably trot out the same recycled anecdotes. For example, when she and Donald met for the first timeat a party in 1998Melania famously refused to give out her phone number. A year later Donald flirted with running for president, and a reporter asked Melania what kind of first lady shed be. Without giving it much thought she announced: I would be very traditional, like Betty Ford or Jackie Kennedy.

When was the last time you challenged him? I ask.
This morning! she says, letting out a big laugh. Was it about something political? No, something else, she says, almost giggling. I cannot say. Its too private. He was upset about some stuff, and I said, Hey, wake up! You did it. Now deal with it.

Nothing like sharing her security arrangements...
It will be nice to once again have a First Lady who is really a lady.
My thoughts exactly. Refreshingly normal.
It was a long read, but I was glad to read the entire article - good post!
Amen. For the third or fourth time in my adult life, I’ll be proud of our First Lady (first immigrant FLOTUS since John Q Adams’ wife). Very worth reading the whole article.
After 7½ years of the media's over the top gushing and swooning about Michelle Obama I can imagine how they will treat Melania.
For most of them, probably no better than they treated Nancy Reagan.
After all, Melania actually is everything they have pretended Michelle Obama is.
Agreed.

Classy like the way you would expect it to be.
“After all, Melania actually is everything they have pretended Michelle Obama is.”
But in reality, Mooche is really a Government Mule in disguise!
Wow what a difference we are going to see as a First Lady...
I am speechless, Melania is smart, a true Lady, and supports her husband 100% because she wants to, and she’s first a Mom...
We are in for some good, classy times folks...
Agreed.
I think Melanie will be just fine as first lady. I predict she won’t need a staff of 20 or however many Mooch has.
Not only will we have a great leader in the White House putting our country first at all times, but we will have a fabulous first lady and a truly wonderful first family!!!
They managed to sneak in a reference to Michelle Obama’s “toned arms”!! LOL!
One that speaks 4 languages besides English. Classy and smart plus beautiful. That’s a combination to wish for.
I totally agree with you. Melania is the embodiment of the American Dream and represents the best of everything that our country should for!! She is equally beautiful and brilliant and offers a shining example to emulate!!
I pray that we will be blessed to have this classy, dignified woman as our first lady!!!
Yeah, my thoughts exactly upon reading that.
“Once given the all clear..” was another way of saying, “after going thru a maze of security.” No one gets past that without all kinds of scrutiny.
I'll settle for a real female. I am so sick of that hulking transvestite all over the news.
