The University of Illinois maintains a website monitoring global sea ice. Recent data is unprecedented (in my experience) in its strangeness.
Did you by chance see the note in red. At the link?
Drats! missed it by that much.
It’s disappointing to get so many flippant responses to my question. I’m not touting any particular explanation of this data, but if you go to the website and look at the charts, what’s happening seems bizarre.
Not sure exactly what is going on, but it must be the fault of mankind, and can only be remedied by divesting the wealthy counties of industry and giving the proceeds of the sale of equipment to Marxists to fulfill their re-distributive fantasies.
Joe Bastardi has been discussing this on his Saturday Summaries. Yes, it’s true with EL Nino to blame and it’s cyclical.
Things are going to turn around with a vengeance in the next season or two and the ice will be back.
Eh, one is growing, one is shrinking.
Add them together and divide by two and there you have it. Balanced.
I trust that God has it under control.
The sudden uptick could be due to a big snowstorm covering the water with slush that is detected as ice.
A better question is, are you serious?
Exactly what group or entity are we to believe at this point in the climate scam saga?
It says the problem right on the site
Special Sensor Microwave Imager and Sounder (SSMIS) on the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) F-17 satellite that provides passive microwave brightness temperatures (and derived Arctic and Antarctic sea ice products) has been providing spurious data since beginning of April. Working on resolving problem or replacing this data source.
Or in other words, the Satellite is broke
I’m not sure why you would expect anything other than flippant responses.
How many people do you think take sea ice, or the lack thereof, seriously?
How many people do you think take data from the University of Illinois seriously?
How does sea ice, sea ice data, or even anomalous sea ice data matter to the lives of anyone?
I know when I wake up tomorrow morning, the first thing on my mind is going to be sea ice, what’s happening to it, where is it, who knows about it, and what are they saying.
Not.
Does that mean we are now going to have a "eloP htroN" and a "eloP htuoS"?
Re: #23. That is really odd and interesting what might be happening with the ice. That is not my specialty so I have nothing useful to say. But yeah, I like to read serious replies by someone who knows more than I know and not so many silly jokes. Just because some topics are misused by the left doesn’t mean we should ignore things.
I would question whether the spurious data only started last month. If you know you are getting bad data now (or at least data you don't want to believe), how do you know you weren't getting bad data all along?
Is sea ice salty?
So why bother to comment? - especially with several paragraphs.
I have no idea if it is at all related but we are supposed to be in the process of El Nino changing to La Nina weather cycles. This has been a strong El Nino, which is why last winter the NE had a warm winter at the same time it was snowing in El Paso and other parts of the SW.
I think El Nino is supposed to be here in the Fall but takes a little while for the switch.
I am not a weather person but for us El Nino means generally cooler and wetter and La Nina means generally warmer and dryer.
Exactly what group or entity are we to believe at this point in the climate scam saga?
