This is what happens when you mix hyper-inflation, price controls, and totlaitarianism.
Pan Am Post reports:
Ramón Muchacho, Mayor of Chacao in Caracas, said the streets of the capital of Venezuela are filled with people killing animals for food. Through Twitter, Muchacho reported that in Venezuela, it is a painful reality that people hunt cats, dogs and pigeons to ease their hunger... The populations desperation has begun to show, with looting and robberies for food increasing all the time. This Sunday, May 1, six Venezuelan military officials were arrested for stealing goats to ease their hunger, as there was no food at the Fort Manaure military base... .Supermarkets are registered into a system in such a way that they are not permitted to sell Venezuelans food 15 days since their purchase of the same product. As a result, long food lines have formed all over the country, with many people reselling their share to earn an extra income. -RW
Have they started eating Bats yet? Bats are common carriers of rabies, so I hear.

Government and politics[edit]
Main articles: Government of Venezuela and Politics of Venezuela
Following the fall of Marcos Pérez Jiménez in 1958, Venezuelan politics were dominated by the Third Way Christian democratic COPEI and the center-left social democratic Democratic Action (AD) parties; this two-party system was formalized by the puntofijismo arrangement. Economic crises in the 1980s and 1990s led to a political crisis which resulted in hundreds dead in the Caracazo riots of 1989, two attempted coups in 1992, and impeachment of President Carlos Andrés Pérez for corruption in 1993. A collapse in confidence in the existing parties saw the 1998 election of Hugo Chávez, who had led the first of the 1992 coup attempts, and the launch of a “Bolivarian Revolution”, beginning with a 1999 Constituent Assembly to write a new Constitution of Venezuela.

That, or some folks in Venezuela are eating, the chavistos and chavistas, the ones not just with guns but who also have ammo.
Then there are the cubanos, of course. The tens of thousands of Castro's troops wearing venezuelan police uniforms who are camped out down there... they have food, thanks probably to Obama and all the wonderful idiots who voted for him...twice.
Maybe those who say they are leaving the country if Mr or Ms XYZ is elected president sound consider moving Venezuela.
They could probably get a good deal on a villa.
Ping.
Wow.......just read what may be the explanation for Venezuela right here....

The Lefties are all about spending money on their loony ideas. Just not their own.
Don’t think it can’t happen here, and all of you who think you’ll just hunt deer should take to heart the story about the Depression years an old goose hunter told us many years ago.
We were talking about SHTF scenarios, when one guy said he’d just hunt more. The old guy said that in less than six months after the Depression really took hold, there wasn’t a deer to be found in the area.
Oh how the American socialist elite are envious, a utopia realized
Hungry Americans Hunt Dogs, Cats, Pigeons as Food Runs Out..
if the Lesbian or Communist gets elected.
Common sense says theyd reach a point of suffering enough to throw off the evil system that has enslaved them -
Similar to Chicago.
Where’s Sean Penn? Like all commies, moving on to the next state that employs socialism? After all, it’s because Venezuela didn’t do it properly!
I guess we’ll be next if I was a gambler.
Are the owners of Joe’s Crab Shack paying attention? Or just trying to figure out how not to allow tipping BETTER?
And lose weight in the bargain!
This may be a good time for govt party members living large behind the walls and gates to be looking for a new home at large. Eventually the people will run out of cats and dogs and will do something real.
Idiots!
The siege, after the fall of Sedan, the surrender of Napoleon III, and just before the Paris Commune, c. 1870-1871.
I was thinking pretty much the same thing.
If there were any intellectual elite among the really low-class revolutionaries among the Chavismo. There really would be a chance of a suicidal commune, a Shining Path, coming to power before "the opposition" had a chance to consolidate a new government. With the Cubans on the scene, this is likely to get very nasty before it gets better.
