The Obama administration's directive Friday that every public school provide transgender access -- or face the loss of federal funds -- drew swift and strong condemnation from conservatives, with one public official blasting it as presidential "blackmail." The administrations directive -- citing Title IX in telling schools to give transgender students access to all activities and facilities consistent with their gender identity -- effectively touched off a national debate that could well extend into the next president's term and reverberate through the courts.
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, speaking to reporters Friday, said his state "will not yield to blackmail from the president of the United States." "This goes against the values of so many people," he added. "This has everything to do with keeping the federal government out of local issues." Patrick -- underscoring the impact of a growing debate that has centered on who should or should not use gender-specific bathrooms, but could extend well beyond that -- called this the "biggest issue facing families and schools in America since prayer was taken out of public schools." The guidance could open a Pandora's box of related issues, from whether colleges would be forced to consider gender identity in student housing assignments to how administrators handle preferences for sports teams and locker rooms, and more.
The letter the administration sent to school districts was signed by officials at the Justice Department and the Department of Education. A copy was posted on the Department of Justices website...

Your post is right on! I try to make that point every time the federal forces things on states with threats of withholding federal funds. They don’t have that constitutional right. They took that money from the state’s citizens.
The Governor of Texas has refused to consider the order legitimate and has told the schools not to allow it.
The lieutenant Governor has stated that Texas law will be followed in this issue rather than the “Presidential Decree” and that he felt it was typical that the people most hurt by the withdrawal of fed funds would be the children who may not have enough to eat at lunch.
He also stated that any federal funds withdrawn would be replaced with Texas funds and it would be a better experience for everyone.
I don’t know what the AG said, but I would bet he’s putting together one hell of a lawsuit against the feds. That’s who we are, that’s what we do here in the Lone Star State.
I am Texan and I approve this message.
If Texas secedes from the USA, all 11 of us will move down!
Molve down as quickly as you can. The traffic jam is going to be horrendous.
Wonder what the real issue is while Obama is focusing on toileting. Obama is President of the US, not king, not dictator. He can not speak and make it the law of the land.........So ignore him.
There should be three types restrooms in all buildings from now on. Many buildings already have them. A mens, a womens and a universal or disabled restroom where a caregiver can help their spouse, employer use the facility etc. Or a mother with a child etc. Transgender people can access that restroom. Okay!
Issue solved.
Hegelian Dialectic...flood the country with Muslims so Transgender/Homosexuals don’t seem so bad, and slide their rights in quickly.
As Donald Trump said. “There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go. They use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate,”
What Obama did today is just a big nothing burger. This is not the hill to die on. We have to compromise on this issue so we can focus on defeating Hillary.
I think you are right. The peril our nation will be in between now and the next election will be unlike any the nation has ever faced. 0bama will not leave office.
Good point. I don’t think we can count on Donald Trump to stand up to this abomination. I hope I am wrong...
Just like gay marriage. Republicans haven’t realized that they have already lost the war on where you pee.
Creating chaos is job one for the executive pervert.
