With state government drowning in red ink and some social service agencies on the verge of collapse, a group of rank-and-file lawmakers is pitching an income tax increase, spending cuts and borrowing as a jumping-off point to a larger budget deal......

......Under the proposal, the state would bring in roughly $5.4 billion through a combination of tax increases. That includes raising the personal income tax rate from 3.75 percent to as much as 4.85 percent, expanding the sales tax to certain services and eliminating some corporate tax breaks.

Always raising taxes, every year we save more of our hard earned money having moved to Florida.

You know when they float 4.85% it will end up higher by the time they’re done and they will pay zero towards the deficit. If you're still in Illinois LEAVE NOW. If you're a liberal feel free to stay there forever.

I don’t want to hear it. They know full well that all they have to do is import another 100 million Somalies and 10’s of thousands more Mexican laborers, give out foodstamps to every one of them, and the problem will be cured! The Feds will pump hundreds of millions into their economy and all the problems will go away! /s

awmakers is pitching an income tax increase, spending cuts and borrowing

They will pick one from column A, none from column B, and one from column C. Spending cuts, NEVER. This is just rhetoric to get a bill passed to raise taxes and approve more debt at the same time. Anyone who thinks you can borrow yourself out of debt is delusional.

The sad thing is that lots of them from Illinois and Wisconsin are flooding into west Michigan.

Now all of our local governments are floating mileage hikes to cash in on them....and us.

Why don’t they just bring in more refugees and unaccompanied minors? That’s always worked well in other places around the country.

If you make over $21,780 in Idaho (married rate), the state income tax is $ 1,110.76 plus 7.4% of everything over $21,780. A local Democrat challenger for a state house seat was claiming the "poor subsidize the rich". I fired back that we don't need math challenged idiots in the legislature. He claims he's not math challenged as a consequence of being a NASA employee. He got very quiet when I showed him the reality of taxes paid by people in Idaho. His whole campaign theme just evaporated.
