As Donald Trump held closed-door meetings Thursday with top Republican leaders, Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois cautioned that the presumptive GOP presidential nominee's "radical" and "extreme" positions will pose a challenge for Republican candidates in Illinois, including U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk.
Kirk, who is up for re-election, has said he will support his party's presidential nominee even if it is Trump but will not attend the GOP's national convention in Cleveland in July.
Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, who is not on the ballot in November, said he will not attend the party's presidential nominating convention nor will he endorse Trump.
Lately Kirk, the junior senator from Illinois who is running against Rep. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., in the Nov. 8 election, has ducked reporters' questions about the business mogul and former reality TV star who is expected to be the GOP standard bearer.

If and when Republicans have trouble winning races they don’t need to look any further than a mirror. It wouldn’t matter who’s at the top of the ticket, Republicans have killed their chances with their Obama coalition.
In fact, Trump may be their only hope to survive as people will more than likely pull the R lever and Trump can get the vote out.
