Newt Gingrich Tops Trump's VP List
Newsmax ^ | May 10, 2016 | John Gizzi

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is now the leading candidate to be tapped by Donald Trump as his running mate, a close confidante of Trump tells Newsmax...

Trump is said to favor Gingrich for several reasons.

First, Trump recognizes he is a Washington neophyte and sees in Gingrich someone who can school him in the legislative process and “make nice” with Capitol Hill...

Trump has other reasons he is leaning toward Gingrich. He is said to personally like him. Rubio, Newsmax reported, has already been eliminated though he lobbied through surrogates for the job. Rubio has denied doing so.

VPs rarely get to be Prez....It should NOT be considered as part of the criteria.

More reasons to like him (see article link below)
He speaks his mind.
However, what hurt him were his capitulating efforts to walk back straight forward original statements.

On the plus side, the “he can navigate the legislative process” argument is quite valid.

On the other, he’s 72. Trump needs a young, energetic heir apparent who can run in the future and make sure the changes stick.

Gingrich for Chief of Staff would make a lot of sense in that scenario.

Was also thinking same.

Too old, but chief of staff would be awesome.

Duncan Hunter Jr. fits the bill better.

Newt has the conservative credentials and the brainpower, but I would rather see him in a powerful Chief of Staff position. Newt could do as much in a COS position as VP. I would lean toward finding a loyal, young, smart, aggressive, articulate black, Hispanic or woman for VP. It would add real excitement to the ticket. The VP doesn't have to be the one who can work the Hill.

My apologies for that important omission of rank and career accomplishment.

Dick Cheney was a surprise selection, too.

So far as maintaining the direction and certainty of changes that must surely be made, it is time we were grooming a new crop of potential heirs, giving them a graduate course in the inside workings of EFFECTIVE government, not this “good-old-boy” and crony governance we have been getting, probably since the Republic was founded. In the early years, it was not so much of a problem, because the then young Republic was still united through the common experiences of the American Revolution.

But as time went on, a more permanent class of semi-hereditary governing class grew up, less concerned with the business of business, than with finding personal advantage through government connections. There were many exceptions to this inevitable drift, of course, and that kept the governance of the Republic relative honest for many years.

One of the cornerstones of this relative cohesion with the original principles, was the introduction of a number of former military to this governing class, who were satisfied to depart from government service upon completing their civic duty. The last President we had, who had ever served in a wartime military, was Bush-41, and his service went back to WW II. All the others since have failed to even much acknowledge the sincerity of actually being in combat, and several have actively displayed their loathing and disrespect of any kind of military service.

VP is only there as a consultant and to help with the election. While Newt won’t help with any particular state or the white male issue. There is no question that he would be good dealing with Congress. He knows his way around government. He does not owe anybody anything. And can certainly debate any issue.

The VP is nothing more than a consultant once elected. Trump could use some consultants who are not beholden or worried about their own career.

A second from this direction. Allen West a super choice for VP and Newt as Chief of Staff. Just can’t see Newt in that particular chair....not enough room there for his bride.

NO, NO, HELL NO.

Newt sings a good song, and there might be a place for him, but NOT on the ticket... he’s CFR, open borders, free traitor ALL THE WAY. And enough bad baggage to sink the Titanic.

If Trump would be stupid enough to do this, and I don’t think he is, I’d be done with him.

I like Newt, Sessions and Palin. However, if Trump decides his VP should be a can of tomato soup or a rotten roadkill I’d back his choice.

Rand Paul’s name was bandied about here several days ago, and I think I could warm to that pick, but what does he think of Trump’s call to ban new muslims coming into the country?
