Donald Trump will come to Washington on Thursday for a series of meetings with Republican congressional leaders. The goal, all involved say, is to hasten the process of unifying a fractured party. The reality is that, nice words to the contrary, Trump and those party leaders are likely never to fully achieve that result.

They weren’t on the same page with Reagan either and even ran one of their own as an independent in 1980. And they could not wait to start up the Bush dynasty as soon as he left office. Populist Republicans who can attract traditional Democrats (the ones who work for a living and love their country but are still knee jerk Democrats) are anathema to the GOP professional political class, who would rather lose and avoid blame than win and assume responsibility.
You and I have both stated astonishingly simple and basic truths which the “smart people” just cannot understand.
It is called wisdom!
Not their family. Not their integrity. Not their soul. Not their reputation. Their elected office that they sacrificed all of the above to get.
If and when Trump and the so-called GOP “leadership are on the same page, we’re all screwed.
