In November, Donald Trump would be the choice of 44 percent of West Virginia Democratic primary voters who supported Bernie Sanders Tuesday, CBS News early exit polling found.

But support for Trump in the general election is largely driven by independents who were allowed to vote in West Virginia's Democratic primary. More than half would back Trump against either Hillary Clinton or Sanders.

WVA Democrats are atypical. They’re conservative.

They want a President less liberal than Obama and paradoxically they voted for the socialist Bernie!

They’ll vote GOP in November.

Too bad that West Virginia has only 5 electoral votes. But since there are similar demographics in bordering states, this bodes very well for Virginia (13), Ohio (18) and Pennsylvania (20).

I don’t get it! Why would a Bernie idiot vote for Trump?

Over four in ten Sanders voters in West Virginia would vote for Trump.

And if Hillary is the nominee, the rest of them will stay home.

I think overall Trump gets 20% of Sanders’ voters, or 1/8 the total Dem vote.

I’d say Trump looks good in OH and FL.

PA is always a tease. Will stay Blue because of Philly.

VA is hopeless because of NOVA.

Makes plenty of sense. If you look at the polling, the #1 issue for about 20% of the Democrats is unemployment/economy. Not welfare, not typical uber-lib policies. These are the blue-collar Reagan democrats who still exist.

Trump can absolutely attract them.

Because a sizable number of Sanders supporters are ticked off at the entrenched political establishment, just like many of us are. They are not idiots. They are tired. They are searching for something to excite them. They want a better life.

Both of them are in favor of controlling immigration and exposing the "big movers behind the scenes," that being banks, insurance, etc.

Also, the exit poll gave binary choices, and many of those polled are simply rejecting Hillary, the same wasy #NeverTrumpers reject Trump, and would vote for Hillary given a binary choice. That one is based on seeing Trump as a phony, a con man.

“I don’t get it! Why would a Bernie idiot vote for Trump?”

These people are not voting for Sanders because they like him. They are voting against Hillary Clinton because they despise her and think she would be a disaster as a president.

A big percentage of Sanders voters are merely voting against Clinton. They will vote for Trump in November.

Nice, but Hillary has written this state off anyway. And it doesn’t amount to much from an electoral perspective.

“Nice, but Hillary has written this state off anyway. And it doesn’t amount to much from an electoral perspective.”

the situation in West Virginia is similar in other states. The percentages will not be the same but a significant number of people voting for Sanders are really just voting against Hillary.

They're cross over voters who support Trump and want Clinton to lose.

“They are not idiots.”

...ok. Voting for an avowed Socialist who has no problem adding 17 billion to the deficit for “healthcare” among a string of other absurdities is somebody who’s really put a lot of common sense thought into it.

...Trump is an “evil” capitalist. The opposite of a Bernie fan that are first and foremost anti capitalist. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
