Times like this I wish I drank.

The whole point of Controlled immigration was to PREVENT crap, such as this, from entering your country.

We eliminated Measles and now the Prog's are bringing it back!!

Pisses me off so much.

Why would we want to vet those coming in? Maybe, to stop a biological attack?!!!!

Like the caveat, “could have started” with a resettled refugee. Uh, given the absence of any reported cases of measles in the city for the year preceding the Memphis outbreak, I’d say the odds it began with a refugee from the Middle East are pretty close to 100%. But of course, they don’t want us to draw any conclusions “without sufficient information.”

It would be helpful (even amazing) if local Memphis media outlets like WREG would dig a little deeper. With a little work, they could find out who the other patients are, and see if there are any ties to the referenced mosque and the refugee resettlement program. Heck, I’ll bet they would even discover that local officials have no real idea as to the number of Syrian refugees who have been resettled in Memphis/Shelby County and the number who have “moved on” since arriving in the area.

I’ll defer to fellow FReepers who are physicians and experts in public health, but it’s never a good idea to admit large numbers of refugees from a country where (a) Immunization/vaccination programs were spotty to begin with; (b) the health system has largely collapsed, due to years of civil war, and (c) terrorist organizations are using the refugee influx to infiltrate this country and launch potential terrorist attacks.

It has been publicly reported that ISIS wants to weaponize plague and other biological agents they might be able to get their hands on. Both Libya and Syria had active chem/bio programs for years, and there’s no accurate information (in the unclassified realm) as to how much of those stockpiles fell into terrorist hands.

Once upon a time, the US had a stringent public health screening program for immigrants entering this country. There was a large hospital at Ellis Island and if doctors believed someone had an infectious disease or posed another health risk, they were placed in the hospital and hundreds died there. These days, a lawyer from the ACLU would probably sue and the media would raise a fuss about how sick refugees are being discriminated against.

The potential for terrorists to use refugees to spread disease is very real.

"...the measles outbreak could have originated with
an unvaccinated for measles adult or child brought to Tennessee
under the federal refugee resettlement program,
something she called “a possibility amongst many.”

Yeah, just one possibility out of many that we are not currently giving a $hit about.

Has Memphis been the lucky recipient of “refugees” from Syria?
