WaPo: In Japan and America, more and more people think Hiroshima bombing was wrong
Washington Post ^ | May 10, 2016 | Adam Taylor

This month, President Obama will become the first incumbent American president to visit the Japanese city of Hiroshima since the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Aug. 6, 1945.

That bomb - and a second atomic blast on Nagasaki on Aug. 9 - effectively ended World War II; Japan surrendered six days after the Hiroshima bombing. However, the human costs were huge. Estimates of those killed go as high as 150,000, and even for those who survived, it was a hellish, life-altering experience.

[Snip]

In the first Gallup poll from 1945 just after the bombings, a huge 85 percent of Americans approved the bombings. However, figures from 2005 show a significant decline to 57 percent. Meanwhile, another poll conducted by the Detroit Free Press in the United States and Japan in 1991 found that 63 percent of Americans thought that the bombings were justified in a bid to end the war, while just 29 percent of Japanese did.

It was a humanitarian act which probably saved over a million Japanese lives (and a lot of American lives too).

What next? Reparations?

What’s done is done. All we can do is learn from it.

Americans were much smarter back then.
.......................................................
Americans were also true patriots back then. Today, America is full of Traitors, thanks to Marxism being taught in our schools.

I agree that we should NOT have used the ATOM BOMB on Hiroshoma, we should have nuked Tokyo and killed 2 million instead of 100,000, good grief!!! S/ON/Off/ON/Off

Read “The Rape of Nanking” and get back to us.

The Japanese killed a lot more than 150,000.

So it would have been much more moral to have invaded and let them fight to the death?

In Okinawa, while preparing for the imminent invasion, Japanese males drove the females off cliffs in order to “save” them from the Americans.

Yeah, well, bombing Pearl Harbor was 'wrong'.

My dad, after commanding an LCT on Utah Beach, was XO on an LST on its way to the Pacific when the war ended.

Put into perspective:

Estimated war dead World War II

Note that the "winners" lost many times more lives than the "losers".

Wars stink, particularly wars of conquest. If Japan didn't want to suffer the consequences of one, they shouldn't have started one.

The relentless assault by the Left on the sanity of the decision to drop those bombs is taking its toll. Many excellent reasons to drop those bombs.

Americans family members and friends were loosing their lives back the. We are many generations away from that pain

When dad visited the WWII memorial on an honor Flight it was days before he could speak without breaking into sobs. Finally when he was able to talk, I asked what impressed him the most
He said. “All those gold stars and how many more there would be we had not dropped the bomb!”
Then he mentioned so many he knew who had lost their lives.

That pretty well sums it up.

I would hope that is how the history is taught.
