Most moderate muslims I’ve known will say the 911 terrorist attack was wrong but then they try to justify it. They’ll say that American influence around the world .... yada ... yada ....... yada. In other words, most moderate muzzies were just fine with 911.

Talked to a muslim guy wo did the same.
Said 9/11 was wrong, and then gave the but word , to be followed by how Americans brought it on themselves.
I got one of those speeches a couple of days ago from a lyft driver. I could not complain because I was on my way to a flight and did not want to get left halfway to the airport.
The rationale in part was
* millenials and others are hedonistic, partying, drinking, women wearing short skirts and not thinking of consequences including rape
* the koran provides solutions to how to live
* koran has not been modified over time, unlike christian bible, etc.
* people have to consider how many millions have been killed since 9/11 in afghanistan, iraq, etc due to USA aggression since that time
* muslim imams(?) available at a local mosque who can answer all questions (he gave me a local address)
i was surprised and just acted polite. at the end the guy wanted my phone number (yikes!) so he could give me a koran but i just said i would read it online so no need.
a bit scary since the guy seemed totally into it. SF Bay area.
